Food Hangover?????

I was going to come on here and lie, but I might as well speak the truth. Last night I went to a buffett. It isnt the first time Ive been to a buffett since I started my new me journey but last night I went crazy. I went carb crazy. I dont know what happened to me. I was eating as if I could still eat like that. I left there feeling as if I would throw up at any minute (sorry for the overshare). Came home and passed out cold, I could barely read to my kddos at bed. This moring I woke up feeling like I had a hangover. Ugh just so nasty. Has this happened to anytone else? Can I really get a hangover from eating to much food?

With all the bad I was doing last night I did down like 4 glasses of water. I dont think it helped any though.

  • Oh yes you can very well have a food hangover. I believe its more a Carb hang over. Your sugar and insulin levels in your system probaby are all out of wack. I have Carb hang overs daily. As a self proclaimed Carb addict, I know first hand the symptoms. Carbs (and Caffine) are my addictions and unfortunately I partake daily. When I am not able to follow my moderation rule, I have that crashing feeling. Right after carb loading, the body produces large amounts of insulin to process all that extra sugar, in an attempt to level you back out. The body being as efficient as is is usually over compensates, then you have drops in blood sugar, which results in that tired, lethargic feeling. I think I read some where this constant cycle is linked to the development of type II diabetes. So for true Carb addicts like myself I try to "balances," my self out with a strong cup of Joe (with plenty of sugar and cream of course. :( SO I have decided to return to a life of sobriety once the holidays are over. Doing it now is like asking an Alcoholic to work at a Liquor store.

    With 52 lbs lost you're obviosly doing something right. And I understand what you mean about a food hangover. After not eating the nasty stuff for a while your stomach gets used to the foods you've been eating. So I can see it being a little upset after slamming a buffet.

    On Saturday I had a plate full of chicken wings, I then found out the entire meal with Ranch dressing was probably north of 4000 calories, and yeah I felt like crap for the nest 24 hours. Then I went on a run, and seemed to have got me going again.

    Everytime I turn around someone is offering me something I would really like to eat, or inviting me to go out to eat....I think I've just resigned myself that if I can maintain my wieght over the holidays I'll be happy.

    Could be a salt overload too, as the hangover feeling from driniking is mainly caused by dehydration, and salt dehydrates. Drink tons of water today and you should come around.

    I have had the hangover too. Last week I ate a lot of cookies and chocolates one day. They were sitting around the office calling my name. The next morning I woke up and had a headache and upset stomache. I lay in bed wondering if I had been drinking the night before but then realized that it wasn't alcohol, but sugar that had done that to me.

    The holidays are a tough time. I have ramped up my exercise last week and this week. I usually do 40 - 50 minutes of cardio in the morning and then swim for 30 minutes or do weight training for 30 minutes at lunch. When we finish work tomorrow at lunch I am going for a long hard workout at the gym, after I do 45 minutes on the elliptical in the morning. I know that Christmas day will not be a healthy eating day so I am making sure I exercise a lot to counteract that. Like Iplay said, if I can maintain over the holidays I will have succeeded and so far I am doing well.

    I agree with the others that the Carb Hangover is real. And it is every bit as bad whether you have been staying away from carbs or not.

    In all things moderation. yeah. Tell that to a group like us. I pay close attention now to how certain foods make me feel. A few weeks ago I had some dental work done that required me to eat soft foods, and I decided it was a good time to have mashed potatoes. Having not had potatoes in any quantity for a long time, I really noticed the carb hangover afterwards. They were yummy, but sooo not worth it.

    I know EXACTLY what you're talking about!! I tend to get that from overloading on cookies, brownies, etc. (Sugar is my addiction) Now, I try to remember what that "hangover" feels like so it stops me from doing it again! (But there's always relapses:ohwell: ) Hang in there!
  • Its been a few hours and Im back to feeling kind of normal. Carb Hangover? Ive never heard of that. I do think it was due to carbs. I just loved the mashed potatoe,, Oh and the butter sweet rolls.Heaven. Ill also confess Im sure the german chocolate cake did it too. Thanks everyone. I learned something today.
