Bathroom scales
I am totally frustrated with my scale. I bought a Weight Watchers scale last year. I changed the batteries about 2 months ago because it was starting to act wacky. I would step on it and it would go from 0 to 220 to 150 within 30 seconds. So, since my surgery, my doctor said to weigh myself twice a week to make sure I'm…

Share your Fave Diabetes Friendly Food/Products
There is a similar thread in the Food and Nutrition forum, but I thought it would be fun to focus on diabetes friendly items. I'm not going to be specific about what is or isn't "friendly", if it works for you and you love it, share! We all can do our own research to see if it fits our own needs!

Vegetarian Diabetics?
I'm wondering if there are any other vegetarian diabetics here. I've been a vegetarian most of my life. For a number of reasons, I'm having a lot of trouble getting my readings/A1c where they need to be. I think I would be a lot more successful if I weren't vegetarian, but it's very hard to imagine making such a change.…

Can anyone tell me ...
Why having dry skin is not good for diabetics? I get the whole, watch your feet, especially if you can't feel them. And I understand that diabetics may take longer to heal. I just don't understand the dry skin.

Fishing for compliments here
How do you like my new do? Thought I get it cut before my hospital stay. First picture, old do. Second lecture, the new.

BBC One Panarama
I am just watching Panarama about Type II Diabetes. It was on BBC One about 3 weeks ago and I am just getting around to watching it. I think I will be keeping this recording and rewatching it every time I'm tempted to eat rubbish. It really hit home what my future holds if I don't do something about it now!

Hungrier now, especially at night
History: I've lost 124 pounds. When I was hungry throughout the weight loss, it was no big deal. But since then, I've admitted that I am diabetic (2) and have started treating it (insulin), for the last three nights, I have been ravenous when I've gone to bed -- to the point at which it was very difficult to go to sleep.…

Stress and BG number
My father passed away recently and since then my BG numbers have risen dramatically. Can stress cause this and how long does it last?

Meter Victories
We all have good days and bad on when it comes to testing our blood glucose. Here's a place to shout out those good days! It's encouraging to see that sometimes doing the right thing (or not) actually works out! For example, I forgot my metformin today. Despite this, I had an 80 carb lunch (not my usual 40). 3 hours after…

Show me your low-carb diaries!
I eat low-carb (and find it extremely effective), aiming for ~30 net g/meal or < 100 net g/day. With those targets, I can keep my blood sugar ~5.5-6.2 mmol/L (~100-112 mg/dL) 1 hour after meals. I haven't been disciplined enough for keto. I would love to see the diaries of people also limiting carbs to get some food…

Biopsy results in Ontario
Some of you have seen my status updates, others know my story with my pancreas problems. I got a call from the hospital that I am going for an endoscopic ultrasound biopsy on my pancreas tomorrow. I had no idea there was a need for a biopsy. I'm kinda hoping this is just normal procedure before my pancreas surgery. Has…

Canadian fasting BG numbers
Hi all.. I love this group, but I do find it a bit time consuming to convert the US fasting blood glucose fasting numbers into the system we use here in Canada (thankfully there is a quick online conversion page at http://www.onlineconversion.com/blood_sugar.htm but I was wondering if there were any other Canadians in the…

Night sweats
Last night I forgot to take my evening meds. So, during the night, I woke up and my bed felt so wet, it was like I peed the bed. My pillow was soaked. It's been really hot here, but with a fan facing the bed, it's okay. It's not menopause because I went through that 20 years ago and haven't had symptoms for years. Is this…

Low Blood Sugar
So again, I'm pretty new to this. I've had to try a bunch of times to actually get the right amount of blood on the strip, and now it's telling me I have low blood sugar (3.8 I'm not sure what it is in American). I don't really know how that's possible. I ate a pretty good meal and I've even had some rum. Is this something…

Blood sugar - crazy readings
Hi there, My blood sugar is going all over the map regardless of diet and medication. It is above 150 at fasting in the morning and it goes into the normal blood sugar values 2 h after the meal - I watch the diet strictly. I limited the amount of carbs in general. I exercise moderately too. I will see my endo next week but…

Is this Neuropathy?
I had a holy crap/light bulb moment today. Over the last year or two I often wake up with tingling and stiff fingers. I thought I was just sleeping weird and maybe it had something to do with the autoimmune arthritis I sometimes experience. Today I was sitting and muling over my high morning blood glucose readings. I have…

Post party
And feeling good. I think the preparing with a few days of fluids did the trick. And, even though I could have last year, this year I did eat as many munchies, and the ones I did have were veggies, shrimp and just a bit of seven layer dip. One burger, one devolved egg, a bit of my sister's potato salad, and a bit of…

So, here's the complicated version...
Of what the doctors told me yesterday. As it turns out, the pancreatic fistula is not at the tail of my pancreas, but more toward the middle, closer to the head. The drain goes under my colon to the outside of my left side. The surgery would remove all the damaged pancreas starting where the drain is. Since it's impossible…

What do you think of this recommended plate for diabetes?

Carbs
Wondering what percentage and/or grams of carbs everyone eats? My A1C which has been very stable for years recently jumped up over 1 pt in 3 months. I cant get my bg below 200 before or after meals, even with the addition of new meds. If i eat 20 grams or less i have been able to get it down, but I have been starving!

Weightwatchers
Has anybody used weightwatchers on line to lose weight. I have a gluten free diet, and I was wondering how this would work. I am having problems losing weight and thought that perhaps a change of diet might work. Would appreciate any help with this.

Taken off Metformin..now diet and exercise
I am doing a happy but a little nervous dance here! Yesterday was my 3 month check up and during that time my metformin was reduced to 250 in the morning and 250 at night. My A1C was 5.6. When I was on 1000mg daily (Jan-April) it was 5.5. My doctor is super happy with my exercise, weight, general health and A1C and he…

I'm confused by some of your readings
It seems to me that anything below 90 is considered low blood sugar, yet some of you seem disappointed when you have a reading of 101. In Canadian terms 90 is 5, normal. 101 is 5.6, also a great reading. Are some of you getting dangerously low with morning readings of 66 and 72's. Aren't you worried?

So here's N interesting development
I've been in pain to varying degrees for two weeks. I'd like to say it was something I ate, but I have no idea anymore. SO, I've also have a weird burning sensation on my left side near the drainage scar and pseudo cyst. The doctor today said, they'll take another ct scan to see if it's growing again. Then, finally, a more…
