One med down!
My doctor took me off my glyburide completely today, as I am still having a lot of low readings mid-morning after exercise. That was good news #1. Good news #2 was that my A1C is now 5.4%! Down from 7% in November and 8% from my original diagnosis a year and a half ago. Exercise and small adjustments in my diet have made a…

Xultophy 100/3.6 Question
Is anyone else on Xultophy 100/3.6? Anything good or bad? Today is my second day. The doctor told me to take 16 units every day for the next 3 weeks and to see how my blood sugar does.

5 minute A1c
I had an A1c check-up today. They can now do it in the office without a blood draw. Just a finger poke and 5 minutes and I had 7.5 today (down from 10.0 last check). No waiting 3 days for your numbers this way. The nice part was that I was able to discuss my progress with my Dr. right away instead of checking in later. I'm…

Fighting Diabetes With Food http://fortune.com/2017/06/29/trulia-virta-health-diabetes-app/ "The goal is to create a plan dramatic enough that it lowers blood sugar, but not so extreme that it’s unsustainable. In a clinical trial conducted in partnership with Indiana University Health, researchers found that 56% of the…

Test Report on 18 Glucometers
https://www.diabetestechnology.org/surveillance.shtml The majority received an unsatisfactory rating. Of the 2 Walmart Relion models, 1 passed (Relion Confirm) and failed (Relion Prime). The top score went to Bayer's Contour Next (but the previous model, Contour, failed).

Question about glyburide
I will be talking to my doctor as well, but thought I would ask here if anyone has experience with this: my doc dropped my Glyburide from 5mg to 2.5. Since then, my fasting levels have risen slightly, but I am no longer having the crashes after I exercise. Has anyone ever taken a higher dose at night and a lower dose in…

Delayed lows from exercise?
Geez. I knew exercising hard one day would make my levels lower the next day (bonus!) but I recently started c25k and it really has an effect! Ran in the morning yesterday and did arms in the afternoon, and this morning I had oatmeal made with milk for breakfast and was at 81 an hour later! Had an actual cookie with half a…

delay eating until numbers drop?
Hi, Just a quick question. If my numbers are high in the morning, does it make sense to delay eating until they drop down to an acceptable level? For example, this morning it was at 165. Should I wait until it goes down to 130 to eat? Thanks, Kevin

I went to a diabetes seminar last night put on by Next Advanced Medicine, that focused on functional medicine. I hadn't really hears of this, have any of you? What are your thoughts? One thing they covered was 1.5 diabetes which more has to do with auto immune system, and based on what they were saying it may be I have…

Statins
So, my doc recently recommended I start taking a statin med. Until recently I have had good cholesterol numbers but they have been rising for the last year +. He tells me medicine is leaning to prescribing statins routinely for diabetics to protect the organs and blood vessels. I was reluctant, having the vague impression…

My 1st of 4 diabetes class.
So, last night I went to my first diabetes class. I was surprised at how much information I learned. I've been trying to read about it to educate myself, but nothing is better than listening to people who have had this disease for 6 or 20 years and are great examples of what to do and not do. An example; a gentleman on his…

I'm within normal BMI, but at the top of of normal. I'd like to be in the middle or bottom of…

Anyone taking turmeric? Apple cider vinegar? Other?
Since there have been several studies on the effect of turmeric on blood glucose and insulin resistance and I already owned a big bag of turmeric which I use all the time (I like Indian food), I recently started trying to incorporate it into my diet in a more predictable manner. I've been taking 1/2 tbs with 1/4 tbs black…

BG control - what meals work best for you?

New T2 diagnosis. Month 3
Since my diagnosis, I've radically changed my diet. My very first home test read 320 and now it hovers around the 80s and 90s. The last couple of months, I've had some low blood sugar episodes where my readings are in 60s and even the 50s. It usually happens around 10 am or so. I don't want to eat sugar/candy or eat a…

I figured I would share my story by way of introduction. So I was diagnosed with T2D in October 2016. I had an A1C of 12.8. My doctor prescribed metformin and explained that this was a progressive disease and that typically patients would add a med when one stopped working. He explained issues with retinopathy, circulation…
