Newbie Question
I was recently diagnosed with T2. My doctor recommended that I take a diabetes education class. She said that I'd learn to use a BG meter in the class and that I should record BG once a day. She wanted to see me again in 3 mo. I called to schedule the class. They offer morning, afternoon & evening. I chose evening because…

Any well controlled diabetics for YEARS out there?
I would LOVE to hear some stories about how you have controlled your diabetes over many years. There are so many different approaches out there... And I understand what works for one may be different than what works for the next. Even so, I'm looking for inspiration and knowledge from anyone who's got this under control…

Why is my Dr. satisfied with an A1C reading in the 6's?
Hi, im new to diabetes T2. Im 47 yrs old and was diagnosed with this officially about 5 weeks ago. My Dr.(whom I'm not sure I am going to stick with yet, something rubs me the wrong way about him) has me puzzled. He seems to have set an A1C goal for me of anything below a 7.0. I am currently at 8.0. I didnt think that…

Insulin to Carb ratio?
Is there a standard ratio or do you have to play with it like 1unit to 15 carbs, 1 unit to 5 carbs? and does it matter if it is Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner? I'm so frustrated with this s--- that I told my wife last night maybe I just shouldn't wake up in the morning. I can't think of anything I detest and hate more then…

Killing For Profit? Big Food and Big Pharma
Ivor Cummins posted this a while back. It's LONG, but it's a worthwhile watch on how some are trying to change dietary and medical advice for the better - better diet (mainly less processed carbs, lower carbs, and healthy fats and proteins) and better lifestyle to help prevent and treat T2D and CVD. It's a recorded panel…

Artifical sweetners with hidden sugar
As a T2 diabetic, giving up refined sugar was a no brainer. But, I have recently discovered, that my favorite granulated Splenda, contains Maltodexterin as its first ingredient. meters temperature sensitive?
My BG readings have been higher now that fall has arrived. This happened last fall/winter too. I thought it was just me. Wondering if the meter was temperature sensitive, I decided to conduct an experiment. Check fasting BG on rising - 117 Put the meter in the pocket of my sweat pants for 5 minutes and check again - 99 I…

Test strips bad before use.
I just got a new g/c meter. it is a Verio IQ. About half of the test strips I've bought so far a bad. I've sent One Touch a note on the subject, but was wondering if anyone else was having the same issue. My old g/c was a One Touch Ultra and it almost never had a bad test strip. With the Verio I take out a test strip put…

Nighttime Insulin - To Take it Not To
Tonight my BS was 216 before dinner and I took 6 units of Humolog because I was having pizza. My bedtime reading is 83. I am little worried about taking the levemir when I am that low but I don’t know if BS will raise high overnight. Would you take levemir or no (dose is normally 12 units) I am going to try without and see…

Anyone use the Flatout flat breads?
What is your experience with them, any blood sugar spikes? I just got some of the foldits and it says they are 15g of carbs with 7g of fiber. I am usually ok with just leaving out the bread and using a knife and fork, but some things just need bread and today it's pastrami, mustard, provolone, and pickles.

Recipes for Picky Eaters?
I'm picky, and I know it. I hate it. My parents never MADE me eat anything healthy and I can't stand that. Anyway, now that I know I am T2D, I would like to find recipes I can make that I might find rather tasty. I don't like many vegetables, if any (corn doesn't count, right? Nor potatoes? lol). I love fruit- but know I…

Lets Talk About FEET!
Hey all! So I've noticed over the past year that my feet are super dry, rough, and cracked. They're itchy and scaly, and downright nasty.
