What are you snacking on?
I'll start by saying I'm doing AWESOME at not wanting sweets or chips or any of my late night wants. And the weight is falling off with the bread taken out of the equation. I DO miss bread, but if I eat it while on the Janumet, all hell breaks loose. But tonight I want a snack! I'm also worried that I can't seem to hit…

Great news for me!
So excited! Called my dr because my fasting blood sugar is still not coming down. The nurse said as long as I feel good(which I do) that it is normal for a new diabetic, to be kind of all over the board with the readings. But she is going to let my dr know. Anyways the exciting part is she referred me to the nutritionist,…

More filling breakfast ideas
I have been making a point of eating breakfast, usually oatmeal with yogurt, yogurt with granola, or cereal with fruit. I find I am hungry in a very short time. This morning I tried a boiled egg with a slice of multigrain bread and yogurt and am still hungry in just a couple hours. It seems if I'm hungry right away, I feel…

Home A1C tests??
I was wondering if anyone has had success with the home A1C tests. My test in early Jan was 10.4 when I was diagnosed. At that time my readings were 180-250 at all times. I'm scheduled for bilateral knee surgery in April and they would do it unless I could bring it down. I've lost close 35 lbs since seeing the doctor in…

Eventually they come back down again, but I was wondering if anyone can explain what might be going on. For example this morning: 5:08 a 90 when I woke up. This was fasting. 8:40 a…

Missed meds today. Best numbers ever
I forgot to take my meds today. I take 2.5mg of glipizide in the morning (along with a couple of other things) and had a total brain fart. I think I need to get one of those pill boxes with an alarm because I have to take omeprazole (prescription Prilosec) later in the day because it will interfere with the absorption of…

1 Year: a work in progress
I was diagnosed with PCOS several years ago. I lived in years of denial and food binge heaven. I teetered on the edge of diabetes but always skated under the official diagnoses. Even after having gestational diabetes, and injecting myself with insulin all the time, I ignored my body's warnings. March 2013 my bubble of…

Protein Powder in Smoothies
During one of my initial consultations with my diabetes educator, she mentioned that any time I was having fruit, I should try to have it with some protein. She told me that doing this will sort of draw out the release of the glucose, which would help me avoid getting a massive spike/drop after eating the fruit. I bought a…

Foods to avoid
I didn't see another topic like this, so... thought I'd jump in and start one. We've all seen "light" foods, and "sugar free" stuff aimed at diabetics. Some are helpful and some---well. Not So Much. What was the cause of your diabetes?
My doctors have told me the main cause for mine is my obstructive sleep apnea. I always figured it was caused from eating too much sugar and never thought I'd get it because I didn't eat sweets. I've learned so much from getting diabetes, that in some sort of weird way I'm thankful I have it. Anyone else have sleep apnea?
