New A1C
Hi Everyone I've been mostly-lurking here for a few months. I was diagnosed in early May with an A1C of 8.9. I had it retested yesterday and it was 6.9. I am pretty happy with my result, I think it could have been lower but the past 2 weeks have been tough (lost a pet after a brief illness) and my eating was pretty bad…

How do you eat low cal AND get enough carbs?
Hey all. So, I lost some weight when I went low carb 2.5 years ago. I still have 20lbs. to go before my BMI is back down to healthy. So, I've been tracking my calories here on MyFitnessPal and am aiming for 1500 or less calories a day. My Dietitian said I need to be sure to eat a minimum of 135 grams of carbs per day for…

How "Out" Are You with Your Diagnosis?
First off, I'm not looking for political drama. My title choice is for the ease of conveyance of an idea, not as a comparison to others' struggles. There are bigger deals than diabetes. I'm aware. When I was first diagnosed, my wife and I had a discussion about who we should discuss my diabetes with. We decided to first…

Dandelion Root Capsules
So, as some of you know, I had gone off the Glimeperide due to the bad effects if can have(IE burning out your pancreas) I had been having trouble getting my FBS down again. My diabetes coach suggested I take Dandelion root capsules, 3-4 about 15-20 minutes before I eat. I have done in two days, and this morning it dropped…

Cinnamon capsules?
Anyone had any success? I've been reading a bit, but there's some conflicting studies and the only ones I've found are pretty old. A study published in the journal Diabetes Care in 2003 looked at 60 men and women with Type 2 diabetes who were taking diabetes medication (not insulin). The participants took either 1, 3, or 6…

Same meal, two different PP glucose readings?
Yesterday, before going to work milking goats, I had the following breakfast: Coffee with 2 hazelnut creamers and a packet of Sweet n Low Yoplait light yogurt with 2 tbsp finely diced walnuts Lender's onion bagel with a slice of American cheese and an over-easy egg cooked with butter-flavored cooking spray. My 2-hour bgl…

Interesting numbers
I got into a good rhythm with my testing numbers. The morning fasting stayed between 110 and 120, before lunch was almost always in the 80's, and pre-dinner was typically around 100 when I didn't work out at 4 PM and around 110 when I did. My doctor told me that, when I had a month where the before lunch numbers were…

Medicine issues
As I hope all of you know, Metformin is a "take with food" medicine, as are a lot of my others. Therefore, a majority of my calories come from my need to "pad" my guts so as not to literally get sick of my medicine. This is very frustrating for dieting, not to mention the fact that the food that often goes so well with…

New to this group
Hey, I recently just found out that I'm considered pre-diabetic.. I was shocked to find that out considering I have a very physical job, exercise 3-4 days a week, and consider myself fairly fit ( 5"10 175 lb male). None-the-less I'm happy to find out so that way I can start working on some things so it doesn't turn into…

Finding optimum range
I know I should take forum advice with caution, and I do. However, I'm hoping for some wisdom from this group. The doc's PA and the diabetic nurses/trainers say that you should judge optimum range not just by the meter, but also by how you feel. That's pretty subjective, and not really helpful because they judge every…

Skinny Fiber
I'm wondering if anyone has used skinny fiber and if so what where your results from it. I have a couple friends that tried it and love it and really did lose a good amount of weight but I want to hear more about others results.

Is T2D reversible?
Hi All - My doctor claims that if you lose enough weight during your first 5 years after diagnosis, that t2d is reversible - at least for most people. I have my doubts about this and just wanted to see what your opinion is. My grandmother was always a skinny little thing and she had the worst raging case of t2d ever. I…

Victoza..my miracle drug
About a year ago I weighed my highest at 173, and was diagnosed diabetic. I tried everything to lose weight including low carb, paleo, low fat, nutri system, etc...I finally went to an endocrinologist who specialized in weight loss. She put me on Metformin and this did help control my appetite somewhat. I went back after 3…

Question on AIC test from low carber
Okay I need to ask a question. In fall of 2012 my doctor told me I was prediabetic and would need to lose weight. So I have been low carb for the past 19 months. My AiC results are - before low carb 5.7 with 5.8 as the last normal number in the range after low car 5.4 with 5.6 as the last normal number in the range So I am…

Blood Pressure Meds and Weight Loss
So I plan to go to the doctor tomorrow, but I've noticed lately as the weight has come off that I get dizzy when I stand up or get up from the ground. I take blood pressure medicine (Lisonopril) and am wondering if with the changes I've made maybe I'm due for a reduction in BP meds. Those of you that have worked your way…

NHS Gastric band surgery for anyone with a BMI over 30
Hi all just wanted to ask what you think about the possibility of people having gastric band surgery on the NHS. Personally I don't think it would help, I think if the NHS would go back to funding glucose meters and strips and educate people in how to look for what raises your blood glucose and what helps it to stay lower,…

New A1C reading
Yea!! Was pleasantly surprised to get a reading of 5.2 three months after my bilateral knee surgery. Really expected it to be higher and in fact was even warned that it would be. So my doctor will be very surprised in the morning, Considering I started out as a 10.4 in Jan, that's pretty good.

What is your carb profile?
I'm curious. How many carbs do you eat and how do you eat them over the course of the day. I know we all are working with different recommendations from our diabetes management team and that what is right for me will not be right for others (and vice versa), but I am really curious how others spread their carbs out. Mine:…

Weight Loss Motivation
Why are you trying to lose weight? For me, I want to control my diabetes and live an active life. I realized that I was sitting around a lot and not doing much. My husband runs a marathon each year and completed an Ironman triathlon. I was on the sidelines watching. Now, I am able to participate in more activities!

conventional vs natural therapies
Let me first say, I don't believe in 'T2D reversal' or 'T2D cures'. I came across this interesting article while searching for something else, but thought it might help others. We hear a great deal of conflicting advice in regards to how to control this disease & slow or halt it's progression. Thought I'd share :drinker:…

An out of control diabetes life....
Its amazing I read so many stories here about how well people are doing with their diabetes and how they have it under control. But for me I'm so far from control it makes ask why can't I get this right! Confession time: I am a non-compliant,out of control diabetic! I have to say that to face the facts. I keep saying I'm…

I hate running out of test strips!
I have not tested in probably almost a week or maybe a week already ,I ran out but I only get 100 for the whole month but there are days I use 5-6 if I have to use my Novolog or if I wake up not feeling well. Does anyone else have this problem!? Am I testing to much?
