Finally getting it....
Hello, I have been type 2 diabetic for about 7 years now. I was able to control it with diet and exercise for the first few years. Then in May of 2011, I realized that I couldn't do it alone anymore. I am now on one blood pressure pill a day and 2 metformin a day. I kind of just gave up and the A1c shot up to 7.2. Then at…

A very happy doctor
I went for my 3 month check up with my doctor. He was over-the-moon with my numbers. *Down 20 pounds since last appointment in August (62 total). *My A1c went from 6.6 to 5.7 (was over 8 in May). *I don't have all the previous numbers in front of me but my total cholesterol dropped about 30 points since August and is…

My Journey So Far & I Have Hit a Wall
I need some suggestions as to how to punch thru this wall! In July 2012 I started a low carb diet to lose weight (starting wt. 392 lbs.) and to get my A1C under control. I have lost 68 pounds (323.8 now) and have hit a wall (fluctuating between 322.2 lbs. and 323.8 lbs.). I have been up and down 1.6 pounds for the past 2…

Diagnosed on Monday-AIC 13.8 (ouch)
I was doing well, losing weight (diet and excercies), having fun and enjoying life but the last couple months something changed. I thought it was because I was turning 30 (lol) but I finally was able to get in to see a dr. (took me forever because I have no insurance right now) and the last thing I thought she was going to…

BG Level of 40
So yesterday I finally decided to try walking and after a 20 minute walk I became shaky so my first thought was blood pressure and or pulse. My BP was 151/60 and pulse of 70. Next I checked my BG level and it was 40. Had some cheese and felt much better. I don't walk because of my foot neuropathy also I only have 45% of 1…

A1C improvement
The good news is that my A1C has gone from 11.2 to 6.6 in two months. I am very happy with this, but I would like to see my levels drop even more. The doctor was going to up my metformin dosage before she saw these results. Now she says I am doing fine, and keeping me on 500mgs. I am still getting occasional after-dinner…

1st checkup - success
Today I had my first check up at the endocrinologist since my initial diagnosis mid July. Based on my own glucose level checking I was confident that my A1c was good, but there was this slight doubt left. What if my glucose meter doesn't work properly? Anyway, my A1c is 5.3 , and when he said that I obviously do not need…

Has anyone tried the "pasta" that's made from white yams?
I bought a package because my gf said it tastes really good, so I'm going to make it with sauteed veggies and a small chicken breast for dinner. Has anyone here tried it?

Diabetes and Fiber
I went over on my fiber today... according to MFP. You know, I didn't think it was actually possible to go over on fiber. Isn't that odd? Can we really have too much fiber? Of course, it may get 'uncomfortable' to have too much fiber, but... Is there really an FDA limit?

Deep crash this afternoon - still not fully recovered
Scary stuff....I've been low before, and especially lately while adjusting insulin, but today I've been on the low side all day. My diary shows what I ate, I didn't skip a meal, I had a snack and I actually added a small salad to the lunch I had brought to work. A little before I left work I started feeling shaky. I tested…

Missing crunchy snacks
Hi all. I am a newly diagnosed diabetic and I am learning what I should not eat. Although I was never one to just eat snacks all day, I did enjoy pretzels once in a while. I haven't been craving anything crunchy lately until yesterday. The closest thing to a salty snack I had in the house was popcorn (air-popped of…

Hot, clammy, dizzy--any ideas?
After running errands with my friend, we were going to eat a little Chinese. I started with some mushrooms in a light brown sauce. All of a sudden, I got hot. I was sweating, dizzy, and just plain hot. Don't know what I looked like, but I scared quite a few people. Didn't feel like eating at all. They charged us FULL price…

Cinnamon to lower blood sugar
I just started taking cinnamon capsules a few weeks ago and I think it's part of what's helping get my numbers down. The only downside is that I burp cinnamon for about an hour after taking it, lol.

Latest A1C showing good progress
Just got the latest 90 day results and the progress continues in the right direction. A1C is down to 6.1 and my goal is to get to 5.9 for the next test using good diet and exercise. My cholesterol dropped 50 points, mostly due to better eating and of course, exercise. Good reports.
