Planning ahead for an unusual (for me) amount of exercise
Hi everyone, I'm a newly diagnosed (June 22) T2 and I'm getting ready to do Pedal for Pete's Sake with my husband this weekend. It's a charity bike ride to raise money for Cerebral Palsy research. We've participated each year for the past 5 or so years and I know from previous experience that it will be about three or so…

Rant: Insulin is the devil...
Or I guess I should say artificial insulin injections. I just went to the dr a few weeks ago and he told me some good news--my a1c was at 5 after being at 14 3 months ago. But I still left the office feeling disappointed because he couldn't tell me anything that will help me lose this last 10-20 lbs. I lost over 80 lbs…

I also have high blood pressure and take two medicines a day for it. I was…

A1c Target
Hi Gang I need some opinions. I recently brought down my A1c to 5.9 from 6.3 in April, and 9.6 in January. I am very pleased with that, but still thought it would be very good to bring it down further, below 5.5 at least. So that has been my personal target. I was surprised when my doctor told me my result...then added,…

Affects of T2 Diabetes Meds on Weight Loss Efforts?
Sorry sorry sorry I just realized I misspelled Effects Hello! Hoping to get some insight from the group. I was diagnosed in late 2009, I don't remember my A1c level from the diagnosis, but I am now down to 6.5 (woohoo!). I've been on Byetta (10mcg), Levemir (20 units), and Metformin (1000mg) since about June 2011. What…

Spiking during/after exercise
I know that many diabetics worry about their glucose levels dropping too low during/after exercise, but do any of you experience the opposite problem? It seems that this is a problem that I have as of late. For example, this afternoon I spent a little more than 90 minutes working in my yard, mowing the lawn and taking down…

5.1 A1C and off Meds!
I had my latest A1C done today, and it was 5.1, the same as it was in January of this year. Quite a difference from the 14.8 upon diagnosis in September of last year. My doctor felt that I was at a point where we should give this a go without medicine, so I am dropping my Metformin and trying to do this through diet and…

Getting discouraged/frustrated
Hello All I have been on the site for almost 2 months. I started the C25K program and just finished week 5. I am doing great on that and today ran for 20 minutes straight. I would have never thought I would be able to do that. Another surprise is that I'm kind of enjoying the runs. On most of the off days, I either walk or…

Scared but takin' charge
On May 18th, I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2. Just weeks before I was told I had hypertension. I've also been dealing with severe depression for the past few years. This new news both overwhelmed me and shocked me to my core. While at times I've wished to die, I absolutely do not want to survive a heart attack or…

What to do when faced with hypoglucemia?
Hypoglucemia is one of the common complications of diabetes & also I consider it as one of the worst villain since I can't totally workout nor concentrate at work whenever I have it. Many times I ended up collapsing. I know about having a candy on hand & I have some in my bag but aside from that, do you have any other tips…

I No Longer Have Diabetes!! NOT!!!
It irks me when people post that they no longer have diabetes. If you "no longer have it", you never had it to begin with and if you DID have it, you are controlling it. Like alcoholism, its NOT curable. Rant over....

Thoughts on med reduction w/o doc orders
I've been taking 1000 Metformin twice daily, reduced on my own to 500 twice daily, now reduced again on my own to 500 daily. FBG has been in the 90's the whole week since last reduction. I don't go to the doctor until October. I can call but I'm being silly and want to walk in there proud that I've come this far on my own.…

Stuff that's happening to me on amaryl
So yesterday I didn't have anything too strange happen. I was a little groggy which apparently happens the first week or so. Just before lunch my BG dipped to 82 and I felt awful but I ate lunch and was fine. My BG was good all day even though I actually ate carbs. This morning, I ate a little more carbs than normal since…

Also went to the Dr today
Visit was very positive. My triglycerides went from over 1700 to 221. The nurse was amazed. They told me different ways to use the insulin so I actually have more control that I realized. It was quite liberatinig. Told them I was doing the C25K program and they were very encouraging. Told me they would be asking about it…

Went to the dr today
He put me on Amaryl so I can actually eat like a human again. He says if that doesn't work well he'll put me on insulin. He is concerned about me going hypo and since Amaryl lasts all day that may be a problem. He's thinking that a little basal insulin my be a better thing but we'll try this first. Somewhere in the course…

Success Stories?
I was wondering if anyone on here who is diabetic and on insulin ended up not only losing a good amount of weight but ended up being getting to that really "toned, muscular" body. I ranted a few days ago about how I can't seem to lose the 10-20 lbs I need to after losing 80 and just want that flat tummy and sculpted arms.…

A1C is 5.8
I did labs earlier this week. I don't know the results of the rest of them but the A1C has dropped from, I think, 6.4 3 months ago. The only problem is that most of this last 3 months I was eating about 35 net carbs per day. I have upped it to about 60 net carbs since I couldn't function so low. I'm going to see if he can…
