Surprised FBS - What's up with that?!
I have been in the discovery stage of diabetes having been diagnosed as prediabetic in July 2012. When I decided I needed to track carbs instead of points I switched over to MFP. Over the past week or more I have been able to keep my carbs to a modest amount with an overall day just below 100 including yesterday. My…

Levemir and insulin weight gain
Hi all, Has anyone here had any experience with using Levemir as a TTD? I may have to start using it and I don't want to gain weight on it, if that's possible. All opinions welcome and appreciated!

Tracking and reports
If one is using the tracking/ reports feature of MFP to track BG, does anyone know if one can get and print a report of more than one week in something other than a graph? I'm hoping that there is a way to print reports to take with me to the doc. Right now I'm transferring to a spreadsheet, but that'sjust extra time.…

I need help!
I am admitting that I need help. It is hard just to write this. I have diabetes and have had A1C numbers so high that the machine couldn't even register them. The nurse said that with my glucose level that my A1C was probably over 16. So I had to start taking Lantus. I am afraid of needles so the pen isn't as scary as a…

Autoimmune clusters?
As I move further into researching diabetes and thyroid disease, endocrinology as a science, and my personality and family history, I have to wonder if autoimmune diseases cluster. By that, I wonder, if you have had for a long time, an autoimmune digestive disease ( or syndrome) or the possibility of one, would that make…

Enough calories
Okay, I'm measuring BG, watching carbs, balancing carbs with protein and fats, and now I'm having trouble making my calories again. Heck, I'm not even getting to the MFP minimum of 1200 on workdays -- before exercise. I can't drink Ensure or eat most of the supplement bars I've seen because they all seem to contain corn,…

Just Beginning but Impatient...
Hi My name is Gloria and I've been on MFP for about 3 weeks. I'm doing okay recording the food - it's just the eating good food part that I need help with! :) Diagnosed in 2006 - 1 cataract surgery, appendectomy, and gall bladder removal later - here I am at A1c of 7.6. Need to lose about 50 pounds total not only for…

A1c 9.1 but normal Glucose levels normal, why?
As I posted when introducing myself last week, at a blood test a few weeks back my Hb1Ac was 9.1 - very high. So my Dr sent me for a starvation glucose test. That has come back as normal 5.5 mmol or 91 in US measurements. When I phoned up the receptionist said "oh yes its come back, its normal, no more test required!!" I…

Feeling light headed
I'm new to glucose monitoring and am trying different things to get the numbers own. For dinner I had chicken breast, asparagus, and Brussels sprouts. Fresh strawberries to finish. First time in quite a while no starchy carbs. A little less than 2 hours later, I felt quite light-headed. Took BS reading and it was high,…

Scale Victory
Today, I have lost 100 pounds from my highest weight of 332. If my feeble memory serves me correctly, the last time I was this low was over 30 years ago. I’m going to celebrate by sticking with my lifestyle change and not by binging and gorging to reward myself. I have to break that lifetime pattern and there is no time…

Five days of measuring: what does this tell me?
In five days of measuring at morning fasting, before lunch, before dinner, and bedtime I see relatively consistent numbers most well within my goal range of 70-149. Numbers tend high at the morning fasting (3x over 149, once well over); before lunch and before dinner run in the 110-120 range. Bedtime is higher - 120s and…

Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes
Has anyone followed this program? He recommends a vegan diet with very low oil and no animal fat and documents amazing results. No restriction of carbs but he does promote "low glycemic" carbs. My husband has Type II diabetes and I eat a vegan diet so I would love for him to try this but it would be a huge change for him…

Exercise and how it affects your numbers
I'm glad I located this group so I could see a discussion on the effects of exercise. Yesterday I went to the movies and had a monster un-buttered popcorn. You know the kind, with the free refill. In order to eat some homemade soup for supper, I needed to get more exercise into my day and balance things out. So before…

Meter advice please
Thanks to those who replied ths morning. I started excessively high before breakfast, 240. B4 lunch I was 113; 2hours after lunch, 137; down to 92 before dinner. I know everyone is different, but I'm wondering how readings like these look to experienced users. (This is my first day with the meter and, at least for now I'm…

First glucose test: 240 before breakfast!
Eeeeek! The top number I should see is 170. I thought I was eating a pretty balanced diet. Could using a white vs whole wheat sandwich roll last night for dinner make this happen? I know that my body generally does weird things with food, but this is scarey. Food diary is open o friends. I welcome suggestions.

First doctor's appointment since diagnosis
I joined MFP in October after seeing an old high school friend post about his success on Facebook. I never looked at it after joining. I was diagnosed as diabetic in January with a A1c of 7.3 Lipid panel results at that time were cholesterol 207, HDL 37, LDL 136, Triglycerides 169. My weight was 322. Constant back pain (2…

A1c
I had my Hgb A1c done this morning. A1C is 6.1 (Standard 4.6 to 6.0) and Estimated Average Glucose is 128 (Standard 85-126). Close, but no cigar. I WILL be within range by my next test in November. Now I’m waiting for my lipids results. Maybe the night shift will do it.

Ibuprofin

Doc appt: Good, bad and Ugly
Hi all, I am TTD and was DX back in 2044-2005. I have been seeing an endo since then. Long story short, I had a crazy job in another state for past 2 years and so didn't see her. Went back today--not a pleasant interpersonal Experience. First. I leaned that she had denied my request via ins.company TWICE in last 3 weeks…

Nurse practioner called (finally)
Even though the doc said I don't need to test yet, she is sending me a meter for monitoring. She wants me to test weekly (before breakfast and before bed). She is also going to get me hooked up with a dietician and the diabetic education folks at the local hospital. She seemed happy that I'm in this group, although I don't…

A tip that helps
I found that writing down 5 things to do a day that you want to accomplish (not that you need to) helps to keep me motivated. After you cross them off, it gives you a sense of accomplishment for that day. I also aim to do something nice for someone everyday. It could be something small like opening the door for a mother…
