  • I thought about this some more lately around which value would provide the best estimate for caloric burn; realizing nothing is perfect. So using the Fenix3 paired with a HRM it uses the firstbeat technology algorithm to calculate calories. Without a HRM it appears to be using METs tables. METs values end up with a higher…

  • I find it easy too. All of the above plus I eat a lot of beets plus have carrots and a banana daily.
  • I do both as well. Running is my main focus though. For weights I lift 5 times a week but only a few different exercises each day and not a lot of weight. Still have managed to recomp quite well compared to where I was at a few yrs ago.
  • 1) What about a set schedule way of eating do you think might be hurting you? I use the neat method. So eating the same thing each day I've gotten used to that and end up in a bit of a cycle of earning back the calories through exercise to balance that routine. This is one downfall of the NEAT method I find and haven't…
  • Day 1 almost over and certainly have a lot more calories remaining. Trying to listen a bit more to hunger cues compared to eating the same thing at the same times. Will have to monitor as I also need to fuel for running so don't want any crashes throughout the day. Will give it a shot and see how I'm feeling after a few…
  • Notice a fair bit into the workout.
  • Are you entering your weight/age etc on the cardio machine? I find at least for running that MFP and treadmill is pretty close. But for example today's run said 880 on treadmill, 830 on MFP, and 607 according to my Garmin watch with the HRM connected. I use the watch value for logging to MFP.
  • I'd be getting a footpod if you do treadmill a lot of the time and your device will work with it. Also use the indoor or treadmill activity so it shuts off the GPS while indoors.
  • Check out treadmill doctor website. Lots of reviews. I've been researching treadmills a lot lately and could probably give some suggestions to consider. What is your price range? And will you be doing mostly walking, slow jogging or fast running?
  • Yeah in Canada it's probably around that. I keep it simple. Just unpack the entire pack of breaststroke into a dish and bake in oven with some no salt seasoning. Have no problem just munching on those.
  • Of course I do. This thread is more around hearing how many grams of chicken per day most people eat as a prime protein source. Not sure if it was out of the ordinary at my planned intake. Appears I'm not.
  • I should add- for protein staples I eat a lot of Greek yogurt along with at least 4 egg whites daily. I plan to start cooking whole turkeys and piecing them out and freezing. Currently I'm buying the big packs of chicken breast, cooling/slicing to small pieces and then freezing them. Trying to get close to 1g/lb for…

  • Thanks. Does it have to state that on label though? Some fiber actually can be absorbed as calories though can't it?
  • Is that all that is needed to determine this with typical USA or Canadian food entries?
  • Try and find a real grocery store and pickup some healthy snacks. I now bring a lot of food with me that are staples so just dinner and the odd snack like chips or desert is outside the norm. It's quite hard to eat healthy on the road otherwise.
  • I've gone through and made my own food entries so I could get a better idea on potassium. I referenced the USDA food database for any entries I couldn't find. I eat the same foods quite often so didn't take long to get everything entered but was worth it. Surprising how many foods and beverages are good sources of…
  • I have a Fenix3 and mostly track calories and steps but come race season I'll be really tracking heart rate and times during runs. (I don't have the built in hrm model). I actually have calorie adjustments to MFP outside recorded exercises turned off. Garmin uses a different BMR formula than MFP so I find its most accurate…
  • I haven't played for five years but am in the best shape I've ever been. However it'd be the coordination of stick handling and shooting that I'd have the toughest time with. Might be worth doing some practice there.
  • Running or really brisk walking. Love insanity too but using a heart rate monitor with insanity i think it's tough to get accurate calorie burn. Think i burn more than the hrm says as it's mixed cardio and strength involved.
  • I totally agree with your post. I've been guilty of this lately and it all boils down to water weight from carbs/salt and eating too many calories for given activity level. Period. For me the trend primarily bothers me as I've been reminded several times in my life it's a slippery slope when things start moving upwards on…

  • Very interesting to see many of us have had an upward trend in the last week. Wonder if the weather or other energies has something to do with it.
