  • I follow the insulin resistance diet. I found it very easy to incorporate into real life. I lost weight gradually, but steadily and lost about 30 lbs in 6 months. When I went off of it, and no I don't know why I did, I gained weight back. Now I am doing the diet again, and again, feel much better, more in control. For me,…
  • Thank you all for responding to my posts. I am back from my doctor and she has referred me to an endo, the woman I want to see is out on maternity leave, but will be back soon. In the meantime my doctor did order some more tests. She said "you've never had an ultrasound of your thyroid? why not?" funny huh? So we're going…
  • I'm 5'8" currently 206 - my weight goal is 145 because I remember looking good at that weight (longggg ago). I'ld be happy to get under 200 though because I am metabolically resistant!
  • thank you for this post. I find it EXTREMELY interesting that soy was added to baby formulas in the 60s, and that this might result in autoimmune hypothyroid. I wonder....I know that I was a bottle baby and I was born in 1960 so this could be why I of all of my siblings has hypothyroid! I have purchased the coconut oil,…
  • My weight for today is 210. No weigh-ins till next Tuesday!
  • Yes - like right now. I am having some PMS cravings. If I eat lower carbs I seem to have this less often, but I still get them from time to time. If there is a vitamin or supplement to help with this I haven't heard of it. It is said that fat helps you to feel fuller, and I believe that it true.
  • I think you'll be happier with the endo. I always feel better with my TSH on the low side, if fact normal has recently been redefined, but I forget exactly what it is supposed to be. 2.9 would kill me though. I will say though that when I was first diagnosed and given the lowest level pill to start that I instantly felt…
  • probably not. MFP sets protein very low - I go for 30%. I hope that helps. You can adjust these yourself to numbers that work for you!
  • Welcome! Losing weight with hypothyroid is difficult, but if we help support each other I know that we can do it! Feel free to add me! Mary
  • Welcome all - it's nice to have some ladies that have similar goals! i would welcome some new friends as well! Mary
  • keep us posted on how this goes! I just started taking 7Keto, which has DHEA metabolites, so I wonder if it will work the same. I have been pretty much reading everything I can about metabolism ( to try to figure out why mine is not working). I am planning to see my primary care doctor and ask for a referral to an…
  • thanks for the info ladies. I bought a jar, but wasn't sure how to incorporate it into my diet. Mine turns liquid when it gets over 70 degrees out, so that was funny. I think I will just try cooking with it instead of using safflower or grapeseed oil, but I don't normally use cooking oil everyday, so I hope this helps. It…
  • IMO mfp sets the protein way too low. I would say 30% for that, you have to go in an make the adjustments. Then, you have to decide how much carbs you want/need. I do 25% carbs and the rest is fats. I do try to use healthy fats such as nuts, and good oils. Good luck!
  • thanks for sharing and keep up the good work. I'm too shy to share...maybe when I have something major to show like you!
  • this is what I do. If you are lifting you have to be burning some calories.
  • they are a protein that burns the hottest. Pork has the lowest thermic effect.
  • I like some boneless chicken sauteed with peppers and onions. or stir fry chick with brocolli soy sauce white pepper garlic. you can add bamboo shoots, sprouts, water chestnuts. or how about salad with turkey meat from the deli. add some sunflower seeds and watch your dressing.
  • yeah, me too. I went to fit to fat to calculate my bf%, then calculated basal metabolism there. I use that number for my goal, because I was told that by my doctor to subtract 200 cal/day for being hypothyroid. I eat some of my exercise cals if I am hungry, and try to carb/cal cycle so that my body doesn't get stuck. Still…
  • hmmm - I say that I would do anything to lose some body fat ...but my coffee I consider off limits. I drink 4 cups with half and half. Maybe I need to revisit this. Thanks for the post.
  • I am - PF isn't bad for starting out. I use the elliptical a lot and do so free weights. If you are just starting the price can't be beat. If you get hooked and need more equipment, then go somewhere else or even add another gym. I pay 10/month plus the 20 rate late fee once a year. At least they don't charge a huge…
  • I've been Hypo for almost about 18 years, and take 240 of synthroid. My weight has gone up every year. The lowest I've been was when I did Atkins many years ago, but it really was not sustainable for me.Now I keep my carbs around 25% protein is 30% the rest is fat, I try to have good fats in my diet such as walnuts and…
  • WTG - watch out - I'm right behind you!
  • started at 209 (age 52) 45 days later the lowest I've seen is 200.6 *sigh*. Currently 202.4 - I'll battle with you if you would like! Add me. (Mary)
  • mmmmm Dinner!
  • bumpity
  • I do. I have some metabolic issues and low glycemic seems to help. I do however, plan for 1 day a week to allow myself foods that I normally would not have. I also cycle my carbohydrate intact up and down a bit. Feel free to poke in my food diary.
  • Non Scale Victory
  • If you use the machines you should always do it at the same time of day...your body takes on a lot of water during the day and this will change the reading...not an expert, but you could also be dehydrated after a work out.
  • Still plugging away - sometimes my weight doesn't change (or goes up) then whoooosh! start 209 goal 190 but really I changed it to 195 (much more realistic) current 201 8 lbs lost and I feel good!
