  • Hi there. I am a similar age and also have problems with sugar addiction. It sounds as though you are making really positive steps. Logging calories on mfp becomes easier the more you do it and it will give you the reassurance that you are on the right track. I am currently trying to conquer the dreaded sugar and trying to…
  • Can so identify with that. Hope the new attitude works for you. Good luck!
  • Congratulations on your amazing progress so far and having the courage to take control of your life back. We all know losing weight is really hard sometimes. My motivation is also concerned with type 2 diabetes and trying to avoid getting it! I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with my daughter. It resolved…
  • Hi I'm Sarah age 46. I'm 5'2" SW 191 CW 175 GW 140. Struggling but not about to give up! Love to have some more motivational friends on here
  • I think it's individual but I'm only 5' 2" and my running speed is usually 5mph or sometimes 5.2mph. I have done c25k outside using endomondo and ran those speeds from the start. I think it's about doing the program properly and if you are struggling to complete the runs, do the week again. I was not fit at all when I…
  • I started running. A decent pair of running shoes and a download of the couch to 5K (there's a good one on www.nhs.uk with music and coaching for free). You just open your door and off you go :)
  • Yeah me too. If i'm honest though, my eating hasn't been the best. Trying to rectify that with lots of fruit and veg and less sweet stuff. It's not just about calories, but the quality of the food you put in your stomach too.
  • Find something to distract you. It's probably just habit. It is a struggle and I struggle with it sometimes too but usually if you are determined, a green tea or diet drink will do instead or deliberately save some calories for the evening to look forward to. Hope this helps
  • That's ambitious. One to two pound a week should be do-able but weight loss is not linear, some weeks there's none, others more than you expect. I am not that strict and therefore my weight loss has been painfully slow but on the upside what I have lost has stayed off (more or less)
  • Not sure as I seem to be struggling too but giving in is not an option. Keep logging your food and if you fail one day, pick yourself up and try again the next. Life is for living, not being on a really restrictive diet all the time so it's finding that balance that we all strive for. Good luck and hope you get your mojo…
  • You've made a great start. I have been on here quite a while but would love some more friends to motivate and motivate me. I am in my 40's, married with two young children. I think this site is really great too :)
  • Hi David I think we have another friend in common too so lets encourage each other. I live in Manchester but love the seaside too. Sarah
  • Some advice on my couch to 5k podcast said to imagine you are running alongside a fence and you need to keep your head level with it, not bob up and down. Try to remember that and also that all your effort should be going into moving in a forward motion. Hope that helps. My podcasts came from www.nhs.uk couch to 5k program.
  • I feel like I need some new friends on here as many of my current ones seem to have gone a bit quiet. Anyone is welcome to send a FR, I'm English by the way. Sarah
  • In my experience it's more about what you eat than what exercise you do. Look to see if you are sticking to your calorie goals and the quality of the food you eat too.
  • Been at this a while and lost about half of my extra weight. Could do with some new motivating friends to keep me on track though. Anyone feel free to add Sarah
  • I think mfp is a great tool for watching what you eat. I'm not always a saint food-wise but I have managed to lose 25lbs in the last year so it's not all bad. I like to have supportive friends around me and I will be there for you too. Well done in the progress you have made so far. Sarah
  • What I have learned is that weight loss is not instantaneous. Look at what happens over a month and you will see the results. Be consistent in your logging and don't starve yourself especially on days where you exercise a lot. Probably next week you will see the results of what you did. Weight also seems to come off in…
  • I think, and the last poster illustrated this, that continual low carb eating is not sustainable for the long term and if you have a lot of weight to lose it is better to go for a less restrictive and more sensible eating plan that will get your weight off but be achievable. What is the point of doing low carb for a few…
  • Good luck in your new lifestyle! Anyone feel free to add me, I feel like I could do with a few new friends to inspire me and hopefully for me to inspire you :) . I have been on mfp for a year now (!'m 45 by the way) and lost about half of the weight I want to lose. It has been a slow and laborious process for me but there…
  • i don't think you could change the battery yourself if you wanted to use it in the pool though. Only had mine a few months so not needed to change the battery yet
  • Sometimes you can retain water when you start new exercise. Weigh yourself once a week and don't worry about it
  • Polar ft4, I think all the accurate ones have to have a chest strap but it's comfortable to wear, can use it swimming too as long as you don't push the buttons underwater.
  • Where you are carrying your fat now relates to your age also. As we get older metabolism slows down and fat tends to be stored around the middle section more. This is the most dangerous because it does relate to the visceral fat around your organs that someone else has mentioned. I think I am right in saying that your…
  • Carte dor light vanilla ice cream is good, and for a little more try mars bar ice creams 139cals of chocolate bliss. I've also been enjoying dole peaches in raspberry jelly which are under 100 and you get a portion of fruit too. Cadburys light chocolate mousse and Muller Greek Style fat free fruit yoghurts are also good.…
  • Maybe change it up sometimes and have salmon or red meat instead of the chicken. You need to watch the iron levels and oily fish is also a good addition to your diet. Sounds like you eat pretty healthy overall though.
  • People on here take one incidental thing you say and blow it all out of proportion! I do make healthy choices and I don't eat croissants or skip meals on a regular basis. Everyone eats a treat now and again, I am no different from anyone else.
  • Ok I wish I had never mentioned the croissant now since I'm being hammered for it. Maybe all those people who eat the same every day are just jealous, it was delicious. And no just because I mentioned beer I'm not an alcoholic either !
