  • So I went to a running store today and was told I am pronating a bit too much and need shoes that offer more stability than what I was running in. The girl who helped me said that based on what she could see in my gait, it made complete sense that my knees were hurting and that I was getting "pronation blisters" on one of…
  • Thank you guys so much! I'm glad I asked, even though I didn't necessarily get the answer I wanted. =) I will be checking out my local running store later this week. Hopefully I can get a good deal! I don't currently know the first thing about form. I've basically been running just however it is that I naturally run with…
  • I have not been fitted at a running store. I've never even been in one actually. I've kind of been putting it off due to an extreme lack of finances (really broke college student), but maybe now is the time to do it- I really do not want to wind up injured. I've also been battling a constant blister on my left foot, so I…
  • Hi! I'm Kristen. I'm 29 and I live in Pennsylvania. I'm a college student in my FINAL year of physician assistant school, meaning I'm working my way through my clinical rotations. I am still a super newbie runner, having just completed C25k on January 19th. I haven't done a race yet, and all of my running so far has been…
  • I started C25K on November 10th, graduated on January 19th and then today, January 25th, I ran a full 5K (on the treadmill) for the first time- 37.5ish minutes. I don't feel at all ready to run any actual races since I've trained entirely on the treadmill thus far, but it is very nice to know that I can actually make it…
  • Today is W1D1 for you- you've got this, 100%!
  • I am SO excited to finally get to post in this thread that I, too, have completed Couch to 5K! It took me about 2 extra weeks due to a minor foot injury at the end of week 7, but I stuck with it and can finally say that I've done it. I stuck with a 5.0 mph (12:00 min mile) pace and ran most of it at a 1.0 incline, although…
  • I am about to finish C25K and start 5K Forever myself. I'll be sticking to the treadmill until spring. Since it sounds like you're eager to get outside, I think you should go with option A, but be forgiving of yourself if it is initially more difficult to run outside than you expect. From what I hear, running outside is a…
  • YES. This is awesome. What a feeling!
  • There will be plenty of time to work on speed in the future. The point of C25K is to simply build up the endurance to run a 5K without stopping; there are no speed goals at this point. My tentative plan, once I finish C25K, is to switch to an app called "5K Forever," which is supposed to help increase your pace. Stop being…
  • YAY! What an incredible accomplishment!
  • Sometimes the only thing that keeps me going is the thought of telling someone afterwards that I DID IT, I ran X number of minutes! And I continually have to remind myself that since I successfully completed the previous run, I am 100% capable of completing today's.
  • AND, to continue with the bragging, today I ran for 25 straight minutes! That's more than 2 miles at my pace, most of it at a 1.0 incline. =) It's funny, things in my life aren't going 100% great at the moment, but having this running thing to succeed at is really giving me a lifeline to cling to. Even when I'm feeling sad…
  • Thank you all so much! This program is truly amazing, and it's so nice to have people to share it with during the triumphs and the struggles. I'm also running at 5.0 mph and 1.0 incline. I've been walking at 3.5-3.7 mph, but I guess that doesn't matter anymore since the walking intervals are over for me now. I picked 5.0…
  • Good luck! I am terrified of saying goodbye to walk breaks, but today was only W2D1 for me, so I've still got lots of walking ahead of me. Hard to believe that I'm just 5 weeks away from straight running.
  • Avocado Salsa (preferably green- just like 2 Tbs) Chopped onion Lime juice Black pepper Salt Mash with a potato masher. Made this last night. YUM. <3
  • I guessed correctly also. I think (based on previous weight loss attempts) that after I lose a more significant amount of weight it will become harder to pick myself out of a lineup like that though. I still have the same basic body shape that I did 30 pounds ago right now.

  • Hi! I love this kind of challenge- the weekly consistency of checking in and cheering on other group members as the weeks go by is really motivating to me, plus sometimes it gives me the kick in the pants I really need when I'm slacking. I'm looking forward to seeing how this group develops. =)
  • You look FANTASTIC! Seriously. I share this problem area and I haven't really ever gone sleeveless in public (even when I was much thinner). I love dresses and always have to pair them with cardigans because my upper arms just need to stay under wraps for the time being. I can't wait to get to the point where I'm as brave…
  • I've only had maybe 2 people who didn't know that I was trying to lose weight comment on my loss thus far. I think it's because I've been losing very, very slowly. Counting the few pounds that I lost before MFP, it has taken me 14 months to lose 32 pounds. I can't blame people for not noticing the incremental changes.…
  • I drink skim or 1% cow's milk and unsweetened almond milk (vanilla or plain). The almond milk thing is new to me- I absolutely adore it! Plus, I've recently discovered I may have prediabetes/insulin resistance, so I'm experimenting with cutting carbs in order to control blood glucose numbers- since almond milk is much…
  • Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm currently in school to become a physician assistant; both at school and in my clinical experiences so far, I've seen a huge amount of contempt and disgust thrown at obese/diabetic patients just like what this doctor described. Whether or not his theories pan out, I think there is a…
  • Just wanted to say that I've been there too. Bridemaid dresses are the worst, and with the way my weight has fluctuated during my 20s, there have been several times (since I've been a bridesmaid five times so far) that I've bought a dress really early and then had to get it taken out at the last second due to gaining…
  • You look amazing- what an inspiration! You rock for sticking with it for so long. Great job, girl! You're doing awesome things for your health at such a young age. =)
  • Another 1.4 pounds gone for me! Down 20 since May and 13.6 since starting MFP in August. =)
