Exactly. Small goals to start. If that don't work, make smaller goals. Start off slowly working more and more in. That is what I am doing. I agree with everyone else. Run really slow and the fitness will come. Also starting off really easy and slow will be better since you have previous knee injuries. Be patient and good luck.

Follow up: It was a real tough course but it was fun. I finished 61st out of 185 with a time of 34:19. I barely beat all the 9yr olds, lol. Results can be found at http://www.jtltiming.com/results/vegrun-5.html Next year I hope to be able to do the 10k.

Good job. Its a great thing getting fit and confident enough to do things you couldnt do before. Also good job on losing weight on vacation, a very hard thing to do. lol.
