  • I'm substantially older than anyone I've seen post here, but otherwise have the same problems and goals. I lost weight using MFP about four years ago by diligently logging in and logging calories. I've done quite a bit of back-sliding and I'm currently trying to kick myself in the *kitten* and get back on track. Weight…
  • I wish I knew the answer to this. MFP does not appear to credit me with steps, or begin to add extra calories to my daily allotment until I have surpassed 10,000 steps (which is the goal that I set with Garmin). It may also have to do with how you have your activity level set in MFP.
  • I'm not normally a yogurt fan but Oikos Triple Zero Vanilla Greek Yogurt is really good. It has a smooth, creamy texture and just enough sweetness to make it feel like a treat. It comes in portion controlled containers. Perhaps it might satisfy your craving for frozen vanilla yogurt. At, 120 calories, it has 15g of…
  • Thanks for your suggestion Misti.
  • Hello all. I just got my Vivosmart about ten days ago and just found this group. I find that the number of "active calories burned" that register on MFP when I synch the device to MFP is lower than shown on the Garmin Dashboard. For example, today I burned 205 "active calories" (from steps) according to the Vivosmart. MFP…
  • I have the Vivosmart. I'll try searching groups again. Thanks!
  • Are there any Garmin Vivosmart users still following this thread? I'm trying to make sense of how Garmin and MFP view calories burned. I see where "active calories" appear in the Garmin app in the mobile "dashboard", when I sync with MFP, it seems like I am credited with a lot smaller "burn" than Garmin indicated I earned.…
  • Since I can't see your diary, I don't know what you are eating. I would just say that maybe you need to pre-plan your day so that you are getting the most satisfaction that you can out of your 1400 calories. I lost 20 pounds eating a net 1200 calories a day (no negative comments please), so I know that 1400 calories should…
  • You can add some drained canned crabmeat to the above recipe. If you need something to bind the filling, add a little low fat mayo. I'd probably sprinkle a little freshly grated Parmesan on top during the last five minutes of baking.
  • If you want to keep it simple, enter your weight, and how much you would like to lose per week into MFP, and let MFP calculate how many calories per day you need to eat to do that. At your height and weight you are probably best off setting your desired weight loss at 2 pounds per week, or preferably less. When you don't…
  • I'm in--sort of. For many years, I would have one or 1.5 glasses of wine on weekend evenings (often when we went out to eat). For the past several months this has crept up to a nightly event. I started to have a half glass to relax after work, but then I might also have a glass with dinner. I don't need the calories, and…
  • I like cinnamon mixed into vanilla or honey vanilla yogurt. Add the fruit of your choice. If you use non-fat green yogurt you will be getting a good bit of protein. My breakfast today was Oikos non-fat vanilla yogurt with cinnamon, topped with a half cup of strawberries. I sprinkled 1/4 cup of Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal…
  • The best time to exercise is the time that you will be able to follow-through and do it! The only negatives that I can think of are that you won't want to exercise too close to a large meal (you will feel very uncomfortable), and exercising too late in the evening keeps some people from being able to fall asleep for…
  • Clearly, I'm going to the wrong gym!
  • I personally don't think it will cause any problem for you to have one diet sods per day. However I think it is a BIG problem that you are getting sleepy while driving a bus full of children! That is a disaster waiting to happen. Do what you need to do to be awake and alert while driving or find another job. I am sorry if…
  • I agree with the above. I never quite got the idea of "cheat" meals. I try to maintain a healthy diet throughout the week, and it includes small portions of sweets at this point (I have reached my goal). When I was actively trying to lose weight, I logged everything. Usually one night a week we ate out, and I made it a…
  • If you "google" "chair exercises" you will find many websites that present exercises that can be done while seated. In addition, your P.T. ought to be able to give you a home exercise program. Are you able to get to a swimming pool? Many YMCAs have a variety of exercise programs in the pool--there may be one that suits…
  • Neutrogen Clear Face, break-out free sunscreen. I have oily skin and this works well for me. Available almost anywhere sunscreen is sold (at least in the U.S.A). Price is reasonalble.
  • I reached my weight goal and lost a couple more pounds for good measure. I'm experimenting with logging only intermittenly right now. I pretty much eat the same foods on a regular basis (not the same thing every day, but rotating the same meals...). I do weigh myself every morning under the same conditions and my weight…
  • I'll bet if you make yourself log those little handfuls, you will soon realize that it is a pain to log them, and that it is really not "worth" the extra calories for the amount of pleasure that you get out of them. Somewhere in the back of your head there is probably a little voice telling you that the calories don't…
  • The only way to lose more weight from your legs would be to continue to lose weight. If your dietician said that you are at a low body fat percentage, this would not be a good idea at all. I agree with the poster above who said that the "problem": is mostly in your head. You are a beautiful young woman whose legs look…
  • How about "that looks fantastic, but I'm so full that I can't eat another bite. Can I take a piece home for later?" Of course, not giving the honest response that you are on a new eating plan and are trying to cut back on sugar assures that you will continue to be offered dessert in the future. So the first suggestion will…
  • What a beautiful cat! My suggestion is to keep to the same feeding schedule, just feed a little less at each meal (maybe 10-20% less). The weight should come off slowly, just like it does for us. You could also try a lower calorie cat food. I have one cat that is a slight bit chubby, and another that is lean (though not…
  • A couple of things occur to me. Definitely make larger quantities when you cook, and start putting small containers in the freezer so that they can become your lunches. Can you cook in quatities on the weekend, and prepackage some of the food for easy weekday dinners and lunches? While you are prepping meals, cut up some…
  • Please consider finding a therapist who can help you figure out how to make the break, and support you if your resolve wavers. If you don't have health insurance, try contacting an agency/shelter for abused women. Pehaps they can hook you up with at least some short term counseling.
  • You will feel like you are getting the most food if you make a big salad with a lot of greens. Add a small amount of lean protein from fish (if you eat it) or cheese or nuts. Use a small amount of low fat/low calorie salad dressing if you have it. Also, don't stress if you go over goal this one day. A calorie deficit is…
  • Very nice victories! That is a lot of weight to lose so quickly. Please make sure that you are getting enough calories from a good variety of foods. If you are like most of us, you need to figure out a lifestyle that will serve you well for the rest of your life.
  • You can increase the number of calories you burn simply by walking every day, without even starting a program that includes running. When you walk though, walk at a good pace so that you work up a sweat, or alternate a moderate pace with more fast-paced intervals (but still walking). Since you appear to have the time, you…
  • 2 eggs have 12 grams of protein. Most of the recent research I have seen indicates that eggs are not really the "bad guys" as far as cholesterol that they were once made out to be. If you are concerned, you can buy the generic version of Egg Beaters--it's pretty cheap. My other advice is just do the best you can with the…
  • Eggs, or egg substitute (can be eaten plain or incorporated into things like quiche or frittatas) , tex-mex style dishes made with beans, nuts, nut butters, cheese (you can use lower fat versions of most cheeses in recipes for main dishes and not miss the saturated fat). Were you ordered to eat meat because you we're…
