Generally for me yes. I found that my HRM was close to the cals from Aerobics-High Impact here on MFP

I died. So clever and it really took me back... to a place I don't really want to go again outside of this capacity.

Yes BP meds can definitely affect this. However, make sure you are cleaning your strap regularly and disconnecting the link after every use to save battery.

Sports Authority has the best clearances I believe, but Kohls will have good sales and coupons on Nike, Adidas. I have found I cannot work out in a tshirt any more, it sticks to me and I am getting twitchy just writing about it.

It's only a mile away for me. Kinda cheating to call it a "commute" lol.

Hilarious.

If you can tolerate walking, you should be okay with the elliptical, recumbent bike, rowing machines, for a bit. Those are low impact cardio options, however with repetitive motions. Otherwise, begin with easy, light weight lifting. As long as you keep hydrated and your body temp down and begin slow, you should be ok.

Which ever one you get... they make you so much more accountable. No more guessing. Truly 4oz, 46g, whatever. So helpful.

Actually it sounds delish... And like my breakfast most of the time. And I live on Pinterest when I don't want to live real life lol.

So impressive.

I've been down that road. Feel free to add me as well.

You have to decide what your focus is. Which ever you do first will get the majority of your energy that day. I switch it up every now and then, but generally I do 10-15min of cardio to get my HR up, treadmill, elliptical, whatever, and then lift. If I have energy after or want to burn more cals, I go back for more cardio.

As a A) Physical Therapist, and B) a person who has experienced a similar injury during soccer, you can expect a lot of ankle/foot strengthening and balance exercises. Hydrotherapy and/or swimming may be a new friend for you. All depending on the severity of your injury and your healing progress, of course. Go see a damn…

I'll just say "like" to this.

I'm interested in expanding horizons. Let me know what more you find out about crossfit?

My current profile pic is me after a 3mi run about 2wks ago. Thumbs up for 10min miles!

Don't beat yourself up. I watched my boyfriend do the same thing. 35lbs gone in a few months of not eating like a crazed animal and working out, and it fell off him. I can't give 10lbs away. Last post was right- you just aren't a guy. But you are doing the best you can. That's what counts.

I still get on the scale, but mostly I see my progress with how my clothes fit, how my stomach doesn't look like the end of the first trimester after dinner, and I guess the fact that people notice. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and think "Yes! The scale will move today!" and it doesn't. But I still felt that good,…

Great job, great pics. Inspiring story!

It's a great feeling right? Congrats!

Love your dedication.

I second compression shorts, I love Nike Pro 5-7in. Downside (pathetic I know) is that the super short ones come in 500 colors and patterns, but the 7in usually are in black only. ( I told you it was a pathetic downside)

Sore v. Pain. If you are sore you are usually doing it right, if you are in pain, take some time off and check your form. Also, I like chocolate milk after my workouts to help decrease soreness. And lots of water.

I can tell you for myself, consistently, my calories burned is always higher on my HRM (Polar) than on the treadmill, and always lower on my HRM than on the elliptical. I know I certainly work harder on the treadmill, so I always believe the elliptical is overestimating the calories burned.

Thanks everyone- this is great. My goals are strengthening and weight loss, and I just wanted some ideas that are better than my current- about 30min of varied cardio then "what do I want to lift today?" I've done p90x in the past and was planning to model my lifting similar to the program's breakdown, but I wanted to know…

Could you be a bit more specific?

I love them. I'm actually very disappointed my new gym doesn't have them, I feel like they are a staple. Great cardio using arms and legs and a great back workout as well.

Feel free to add me-- I'm here for you!

Hop on any machine you are comfortable with and casually observe those who are lifting. It gives you ideas, and then come home and do some research. When you are feeling brave, wander over and pretend you know what you are doing. Eventually you will know what you are doing! It stops being scary I promise ;)
