  • I'm on day 6. I've done several. We have a great fb group for support, if you'd like to join: https://www.facebook.com/groups/505307262833228/
  • How is that relevant or helpful?
  • I did it for a year and half. I really enjoyed it, but had to quit because it just wasn't fitting in my budget and schedule anymore. I may go back to it someday though! Have fun with it and enjoy the ride.
  • I'm currently training for a half marathon and using this strength program: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/marathon-weight-training-stay-strong-during-marathon-training.html I did SL5x5 prior to starting half marathon training and loved it, but 2 days a week, fewer sets works better with my current training schedule.
  • Born & raised in Wisconsin! Been living in TN for 5-1/2 years now. Welcome back to MFP.
  • Haha! I'm glad I'm not alone. I quit gluten as part of an experiment to try to figure out what the heck was wrong with me that I was sick all. the. time. Lots of self-experimentation including eating strictly paleo, doing multiple whole30's, eating wheat (and subsequently being sick for about 10 days)...etc. I decided I…
  • This is awfully timely, isn't it? http://whole30.com/2014/09/five-things-melissa-hartwig-learned-whole30/
  • I agree. Self criticism only makes it harder. I think we all go through these "phases" (for lack of a better word) where we sort of fall off the wagon and start to feel like crap. I was in a "eat all the candy and chips" phase for a quite a while not too long ago. I kept telling myself it was ok because I never eat wheat…
  • What foods are you eating that you can't tolerate? Maybe a look at those would be a good start to see what you could replace them with...etc. About breakfast: Have you tried frying up breakfast sausage with veggies? When you say you don't like leftovers, is that ALL leftovers? What about soup? Would you consider eating…
  • The Whole30 is a much stricter version of paleo and even the program developers don't recommend staying that strict forever. Glad you found recipes that you enjoy!
  • This is good. I add bell peppers. http://paleomg.com/easy-shredded-beef/
  • Good luck on your whole30! Be sure to come back here and share your success :)
  • You'd be surprised how many new combinations there are out there! I am very rarely bored with what I eat and I've been eating (mostly) paleo for 2.5 years and the majority of the meals I prepare are W30 compliant. Here's a list of blogs/websites with fabulous recipes: http://www.wholelifeeating.com/…
  • You may find that you enjoy your meals more without those things. You'll be surprised what you'll learn in those 30 days :)
  • I have two theories: 1. Like others have said, it's a temporary goal and hasn't been made a permanent lifestyle change; or 2. In their haste to lose the weight quickly, they cut too many calories/exercise too much (basically have too much of a deficit) which destroys their metabolism.
  • Yes, this. I started doing weekly "cook-ups" on Sundays and it's been the best thing ever. We (almost) always have good, healthy tasty food available with little to no work required before eating.
  • I did it 2 years ago and my life has been forever changed. We don't eat 100% strict paleo in our household, but very close! We eat a ton more veggies now than we ever have, cook way more of our own food and have improved health markers (both the Huz & I). It will totally change your relationship with food. It won't be…
  • You're going to have to experience some things for yourself to decide what works/doesn't work for you. It also depends on your goal(s). Honey is said to be great for many ailments & to have many health benefits (as long as it's pure, raw local honey), so if one or more of those reasons is why you want it (or you just love…
  • Weight fluctuates. It's part of life and can happen due to hormones, stress, lack of quality sleep, poop.... you name it. The best thing to do is take the focus off of weight and put it elsewhere. Like on eating more veggies, dialing in your sleep habits, minimizing stress, playing more...etc. Here's the thing. Let's say…
  • I second this. Be careful not to take everything that every paleo blogger says to heart. They ALL mean well, but let's face it, focusing solely on the scale is not mentally healthy, and like Akima said, health is measured in many ways (including mentally). My personal experience: I've been at this weight for over a year…
  • I like to make a "hash" for breakfast. I usually make a big one up and eat it for days. The one I made today had 1lb of breakfast sausage, 1 large sweet potato and 3 hand fulls of spinach. I fried an egg in coconut oil and put it on top of my serving. 14g carbs, 27g fat, 23g protein. If you just can't fathom life without…
  • I agree that that's ridiculous. When I did CF, I had never touched a barbell in my life, so I started with a piece of PVC and moved up to a 15lb empty bar, then a 22lb empty bar, then a 33... then 45... you get the picture.
  • I couldn't agree more. Also, some have mentioned that things like paleo mayo & ranch dressing...etc. are just as SWYPO as desserts. As much as it pains me to admit it, there's some truth to that. My personal opinion is that it's only 30 days. You should challenge yourself to find more nutritious foods to eat for those 30…
  • My favorite quote from the article: "Wheat is an attractive and important source of micronutrients for those folks who won’t eat green vegetables, red meat, nuts, bivalves, and liver."
  • I do sort of wonder if they are starting to "sell out" a little to make it "easier" for people. Which is dumb. Oh well, if/when I do another Whole30, I'll probably leave the white potatoes out. I do keep butter in though (I left it out the first few times).
  • Personally, I found that omitting them during my W30 sort of forced me to try new veggies. Potatoes are a little too "easy" for me and a bit of a food with no breaks. But, I have started eating them again. I just don't use them as my go-to veggie anymore.
  • It's different for everyone. Sounds like you're doing great. I love chai tea lattes :)
  • What are you doing for activity? If you change your outlook from "exercising to burn calories" to "eating to fuel activity" you might find that the urge to "binge" stops (simply by reframing your outlook).
  • I think you've answered your own question. If eating "clean" causes you to binge, you're not doing yourself any good (for weight loss, physical health or mental health). Find a happy medium that YOU can live with. Good choices can still be made regarding fast food/junk food. ETA: some people who eat "clean" or "paleo"…
