  • I'd say you're doing one hell of a job if you're down almost 10%. I started last March around 29%, and am currently around 22%, so I'd say the 9% loss in the same time is very good. All our bodies work differently, and as long as you're healthy and not hurting yourself doing it, I'd say it's great progress. :)
  • Ha. If I were in a place where I could make my own food, or have a drink or two, I totally would... sadly, I'm stuck here in Afghanistan without parole until March. But then... it's on for sure! :D
  • I saw this recently and thought it might come in handy. Hope it helps! http://lifehacker.com/5858209/the-no+bs-guide-to-boosting-your-immunity-and-avoiding-the-common-cold
  • I used to play RIFT Before my deployment... and as much as I'd love to go back because it was a good time, I think I'm gonna hold out for GW2 to come out. I know my roommates back home are waiting, so I'll end up playing that with them.

  • I have heard the rule of Protein based on weight, but never in lbs. I always heard per kilograms... mostly cause 190g of protein seems like it would be a LOT of calories to consume. The main reasons people eat a lot of protein is for muscle growth and because it takes times to break down in your system, which makes you…
  • Call it what you will... I'm here for motivation to help keep myself in the army, and because of my father's issues with heart problems. And, there's that part of me that wants to look good in uniform, of course. ha I guess it's a mixture of both, with a side of honor and pride.
  • It can really depend on what type of exercise you're doing, how long you've been doing it, and the types of food you eat. I didn't go looking at your food diary much, but I noticed that you typically have 20-30 minutes of Elliptical or Stair master. Is there any other type of cardio training you like to do? I know it's…
  • Everyone I know thinks I'm angry all the time. My face just tends to resemble a scowl a lot... I'm not angry, you just can't tell how I really feel. And I host regular poker parties at my house (well... when I'm at home and not deployed, that is... lol) and I often walk away with the most money, so I figure that's saying…
  • Welcome. :) This is a great place to start and find motivation. If you've any questions, ask away.

  • Holy.... Yea, you look amazing! :) Nice job.
  • Indeed. I talked with my senior leaders and they all sorta suggested the same thing. A lot told me to rest a little longer with the cold and all, make sure I'm eating right and getting the right amount of water/sodium. I think my plan of action at this time is to let my body rest a little more and ease into it again over…
  • I've considered the blood pressure issue too, but when I went to get my muscle checked out (Early August... about a month ago) the nurse told me I had good blood pressure. I suppose I can go in and have them check it again to see... just to make sure that's not an issue. I might just give it a few days to finish getting…
  • I've lost 41 total pounds since March 20th, so about 165 days, give or take.
  • If you ask me, I couldn't see it being that big a deal... but if you're consistently using oil to cook things, then perhaps it would be worth it to log. Or if it says how many calories it has when you use it, then maybe you'd want to log it. Otherwise, I, back when I could cook and wasn't being fed by the army (ha), don't…

  • Welcome. It is difficult to lose weight without exercising, but possible. :) Just make sure you're eating right, and cut down on how much you are eating. This has always been a difficult task for me to accomplish myself. I wish you good luck on your journey.

  • My most popular song of late has been "Forget Me Not" by Disciple. Mostly cause it's a song about how I'm coming home, and "don't you forget about me." Fits, being stuck in Afghanistan. ha But typically, any kind of hard rock with a positive message.
  • Probably "When you make it home from here, no one is going to recognize you." Or my Sergeant Major today said, "Damn, Collins... you look like a different person." (I haven't seen him since May.) That's probably the best compliments I've gotten so far. ha
  • Though I do agree to an extent that some people don't take constructive criticism well, that shouldn't give anyone the opportunity to treat someone else like **** because they don't agree with something. I think this is more geared towards those who phrase answers with the intent of insulting someone. Open discussions and…
  • Well spoken. This place is here for support. If you can't say anything nice, best not say it at all.
  • You said it yourself... "I'm not losing pounds, but am losing inches" Chances are, you'll losing weight from fat, but you are also likely gaining weight from muscle. A lot of people experience this "plateau" sometime during weight loss. It's normal. Change up your workout routine a little... you should start to see some…
  • That's amazing! Glad to hear it! :) I know that feeling. My Multi-Cam trousers fall down if I put them on and don't tighten the belt right away. ha I don't even have to unbutton them to put them on, and that's a great feeling! Keep up the wonderful work.

  • Typically, my style of music is something very heavy that I can lip-sync to... I think that focusing on the words and music helps take my mind off the fact that I'm running or putting a lot of effort into what I'm doing. I listen to a lot of rock music, but usually ones with positive messages over the depressing ones.…
  • I'm currently stationed in Afghanistan, and a lot of my translators are fasting over Ramadan. They said there isn't really much you can do to not lose some weight. Some of them say eating lots at nights helps counter-act the weight loss, but it's likely to cause you go gain weight in my experience. Here, they're fasting…
  • It's not a sign of weakness if you ask me. Our bodies do have a limit. And pushing yourself far beyond it is a good way to hurt yourself. I'd just say "hey... I'm feeling VERY sore today, and need a day off." If they don't accept that, then it's their loss. My work out buddy here works more than I do, and sometimes I tell…
  • To be honest, keep at it. That's the best advice I can give you. There are LOTS of reasons why you may have retained weight. If you're starting working out for the first time, your muscles could be retaining water in order to help heal. If you're eating a lot of Sodium, that can retain water weight. Also, if you're…
  • I'd certainly have to agree with this too. :) Lots of protein, and you definitely need to eat more if you're working out at a younger age. :)
  • Could be muscle replacing fat int he area. Don't let it get you down. Switch up your routines. I'd suggest weight lifting... I think it would help a lot. The more muscle you have, the more calories your body burns. Obviously don't over do it, but adding a bit here and there could really help. I lost about 15 lbs before I…
  • Great job. Congrats. :) Sooner or later, you'll be doing 5 miles. ;)

  • Are you only jogging? If you create a routine, your body learns this and sometimes it stops the weight loss. Try mixing it up. Start doing some sprints in your routine, then do some weight lifting or some type of calisthenics. Something that gets your heart going, but isn't just running. I hit that plateau myself before...…
