  • I have a few questions. What proportion of women could be described as an 'alpha woman'? If someone isn't an alpha woman, what is the correct term for them?
  • I'm starting to lose, finally. At 88.3 kg today, my daily deficit is 1,677 kJ.
  • My challenge is to see how many days in a row I can eat below maintenance (currently 2). Starting weight 92 kg, Jan 17, 2017 Goal weight 66 kg, ideally before July 2020 (1,223 kJ daily deficit needed) Last time at goal weight November 2012 Day/Weight/kilojoules/Food cost NZ$/grams of refined sugar/loss or gain? • I could have used that app and that award when I was a child, and it was the holidays.
  • Non-family members: Back when I was slim "you could afford to put on some weight" - this was the only time someone has commented that I was possibly too slim, it was annoying at the time but I'm kind of flattered now. After I gained a lot, and reached my heaviest "have you put on weight?" this did hurt at the time but I am…
  • I'm still at 88.5 kg, I've been here a while. I want to eat between 6,000 and 8,800 kJ and the upper limit will reduce slowly. I need to have a daily deficit of 1,655 kJ to reach goal weight on the 15th Nov.
  • Yes, there is a set point for some people. But it's not about energy. It's about appetite. Some people have an appetite regulation system that is perfect. I used to be one of those people. I would forget to eat sometimes. In terms of energy intake I have no idea unfortunately. I would tend to say no, but who knows.
  • With the exception of walking, I don't enjoy exercise. I have lost weight in the past without exercising. I tend to see exercise as a way of teaching myself to eat better. A chocolate bar = one hour on the treadmill. I'd rather just skip the chocolate and not have to do the treadmill.
  • It's one of the hardest things which I have done in my life, losing 28 kilograms.

  • I'm really sorry to hear that you are going through this. I've been there too. I hope that your circumstances change and you go beyond your current situation.
  • See your doctor for a referral for mental health treatment in your area.
  • I can relate, as a child I would bike to school regularly, then my brother had a head injury while riding his bike (with me at the time) and I didn't ride mine for about 6 months, I took the bus instead
  • So today I weigh 88.5 kilograms, and my goal weight is 66 kg. That means I need a daily deficit of 1,607 kJ, which is "not too bad". I've been at this weight since February, if I'd started then, my daily deficit would only need to be 1098 kJ, a huge difference.
  • I don't know. I'm trying out reducing my refined sugar intake. Many days would be over 100g. Today I will be having 55g. I've decided that I can choose between goal weight or refined sugar, I can't have both.
  • Anything that contains refined sugar.
  • "What year was Jesus Christ born?". Me: "the dark ages, around 1200". I couldn't resist.
  • Not yet. Maybe in 15 kg.

  • Give it a month just as an experiment. I'd suggest that you start off at 100 g carbs and reduce by 5 g per day, it's much easier that way, or it was for me. Both in terms of body adjusting and figuring out what to buy.

  • I have trouble believing that "the average person consumes way less protein than they need". If that were the case, people would be physically weak and unable to lift reasonably heavy objects, hearts would be atrophying, etc. I would love to be proven wrong though.

  • Just have a look at the challenges in the challenges forum, there are a lot there. Read the first post of each challenge, and see how the challenge is organised. The key is to get to the challenges forum, which is in the Community section from myfitnesspal.com homepage.
  • I don't think that it's a fad. Atkins' book came out in 1972, I remember it being popular in the 80's and 90's. French bakers were complaining about low carb diets in the 90's.
