For me if I was going to focus both on exercise and food in the beginning I would have failed, like I have failed before for the simple reason that it would have been to much. So I started by slowly making changes to my diet.

Go see your doctor. Now.

I'm 5'1'' and 120 lbs and my maintenance is 1690 calories. So something is not right there. How much weight do you want to lose? How much are you planning to lose per week? Maybe take a little more time to lose the weight in order to not crack under the1200 calories a day limit.

Salmon wrap with salad topped with salsa.

If it works for you, then go for it.
-
I usually eat a banana around that time, it keeps me full until dinner.
-
Maybe reevaluate how many calories you eat? I mean, that number is pretty low.
-
My thought exactly. We started pasteurizing it for a reason.
-
I used to make an estimate. I'd plan what I'd eat and then make an educated guess at how much I would eat. When I preparedthe food I would weigh and measure everything and correct the numbers.
-
When I put on clothing that used to be snug or have to buy something a size smaller then what I thought I would.
-
No. Some things I measure, but I no longer log on a regular basis. I weigh myself every month and adjust my diet accordingly.

What worked for me was to be aware of what I was eating. To eat 3 meals, dessert, and up to two snacks a day. I logged everything and got a feel for both calories and nutrition in what I ate, but at the same time was my philosophy was one meal at a time so if I messed up with one meal didn't mean the entire day was ruined…

This. I would eat so much it was scary. And I still can't judge what a reasonable amount of cheese is.
-
Cereal, pretty much any kind. And I would eat it by the handful from the box. But after realizing what a portion of it was I would much rather have something that isn't 50% sugar and not filling at all. That and I've started buying smaller blocks of cheese and only allowing myself to eat it with one meal a day. The smaller…

I usually go for subway if I have to get some food on the go. But for the days when I am home late I have soup in the freezer.

That's nice if it's an option for you. Where I live the police is telling people to stay inside because of the rain. One place on my usual walking route I can literally swim on the side-walk. The sun goes down before 5pm and isn't up before 8am. So I'm going to stick with the treadmill until spring.

A calorie *is* a calorie, it's a measurement of energy. That is the simple answer. But our bodies are not that simple. The research is rarely conclusive on anything, and it changes with the trends. But here's a good place to start finding scientific papers on nutrition and weight loss. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/

:D That was my reaction as well.

I eat cucumbers.
-
I usually eat some fruit on the bus to work, and then eat a snack around 9.
-
I usually just eat some fruit on the bus to work. If I've got time I'll eat oatmeal with berries or greek yoghurt with honey and nuts.

She took losing her period as a good sign and not a flashing watning light tht something is wrong.
-
That's my fear as well. I mean, working out with my couch and right there isn't the easiest thing.

I'm on the lookout for one. :D

Next week the temperature is dropping from around 10*C to just above 0*C and with the rain and getting dark earlier and earlier, I'm close to done with rough terrain outdoor. I've bought new batteries for my Nintendo Wii, and I'm planning on doing pilates and Wii fit.

Oh, I've been using compression cold gear for 2 weeks already, and it's great for fall, but dead of winter where I live is regularly -20*C (-4*F) or worse, with 1-2 meter of snow. So while there will be skiing I really need something to do inside in front of a fireplace.
