  • Maybe try making a small change and getting it down, and then make another, and so on. Example - quit drinking soda and switch to water. Then pick another thing and add it... Since you've only been doing dramatic changes, see if doing small ones will help.
  • Cheer up! It does get better. Last time I quit it was about 3 months before I stopped feeling "plegmy" (sorry 2B gross). And even w/o the cigs, running takes a build-up. But to really make your day - the best fat burning method is to do a combo of walk-run - just what you're doing... I usually walk 4 run 1 or walk 8 run 2.…
  • Alf, I tried it your way with my iPod Shuffle, and I did enjoy that. And to answer the questions, now that I've done it, yes it worked. I only lost a few more pounds but I dropped a whole pant size - this one is great for the lower body. I also thought that level 2 was the hardest. But maybe that's because I'm not the most…
  • I used Depo Provera for 2 years (the shot) and then had switched to Seasonique, where you take pills for 3 months and then take a week off. Both were my choice becasue they keep you from menstruating. BUT...... Right after I stopped using b/c, I got a serious DVT blood clot that nearly killed me! I also (although this is…
  • Thanks all - many great tips! I'm going to try to be a good influence for my new friends and not the other way around. Plus I can always find MFP friends when the going gets tough!!! ( :
  • Just an idea to add to your other great suggestions here... Some people are scared of pressure cookers, but I got a stove-top one (not a plug-in) from Williams Sonoma. It's good sturdy quality, so I don't worry. Using it, I can cook brown rice in a third of the regular stove time, and it comes out right every time. Just…

  • Hmm. Sounds like you're going at it right. I had some trouble after I started - lost a few then started gaining. I saw that not only did I have to stay in range on the calories (not too high OR too low). I also had no result if I went over on sugar but kept the calories in range. People's bodies respond differently. Make…
  • Depends on if you have the extra from exercizing or just from the food intake. If it's extra from exercize, I wouldn't worry about it. Sometimes I eat my extra work-out calories and sometimes I don't. You do want to avoid going too far under just on regular calories, tho, since it can make you go into starvation mode and…

  • I have the 30 day shred. (haven't tried the other) Plusses - great results, 3 different workouts for variety, dont need lots of equipment, and the workouts are 20 minutes but really efficient! Negs - great for a month and then can get boring - I do it 30 days and then put it away ands do something else for a few months…
  • It's "enough" sure. Especially since most docs are thrilled if you bother to do 20 min 3x a week! You are making an A+ compared to the average. I try to do a 2-2-2 just to alleviate boredom and burnout. Every week, I do 2 cardio, 2 strength and 2 stretch (yoga or pilates), but I vary what they are specifically. It keeps me…
  • I throw my corn cobs out to the animals when I finish (or they just take them off the compost pile). I have noticed that they do that - they haul them up and stash them in the branches and crooks of the trees, and go back to them. It's hilarious to look up and see a corn cob like that. Squirrels are cool!
  • Welcome back - you go girl! (and KICK) ...but only because you asked!
  • I seldom eat my exercize calories. But I do make sure to consume at least 1200 of my required 1320. And most of the time, my breakfast comes in at 325 to 350 calories. One good snack for getting in calories but still being good to your heart is nuts. I keep almonds, walnuts or pistacios around - it helps.
  • I always go over on sugar. Between my coffee creamer (mmm) and the little square of dark chocolate (mmmmm) it's all she wrote. But sometimes I go over when it's a banana or other fruit, so it doesn't worry me as much.

  • You gotta love a site where we all come hoping to kick our OWN butts! :ohwell: I hope it works well for you - it's a great tool! Welcome.

  • I use the jump rope as part of my circuit training. Set of lifting, then jumprope, then situps. Then rinse and repeat! I like that it adds variety to my workout. Have a blast with your new jumprope!
  • I had a friend do a "detox/cleanse" last year. She said she could hardly leave the house for days because it "loosened her up" so much. So when my nutritionist suggested it, I said only a gentle one, so she gave me a less potent version. It didn't seem to have a huge affect on me. I think your body actually needs some of…
  • Welcome! I thought the Nutrisystem food was sorta ikky also. I liked the pizza, but you can't quite live on that. Or I would pour a packet of cereal in a bowl and look in the bowl, look in the package, look back in the bowl and wonder where the rest was?! Great tip about logging before eating. What a super idea. The tip I…

  • I never had avocado until I was over 40. And now I look at with an adoring "where have you been all my life" glint in my eye. I definitely have a "thing" for avocado! Several months ago I posted a question looking for avocado recipes and have since tried several of MFP recommendations. My favorite way to have it: half an…
  • I have gone down a couple pant sizes and even though I have plateaud about 5lbs higher than my goal, I debated and debated but finally took all the larger clothes to the Goodwill. When I asked on here, I got about 50-50 response for ditching or saving them "just in case". I decided it would be like burning the bridge. If…
  • Question for singfree - where can I learn more about the rules of "clean eating"? I saw you mention that a couple of times. I have been with MFP for 6 months with a goal of losing 10 pounds (I'm 42). I have only lost half that, BUT, the scale isn't the whole story, because I have gone down two pant sizes (forcing me to…
  • I probably shouldn't be asking this on a public site with people who will hate me for putting the idea in their head, but I have a craving for one of those pastries that has the cheesy, sweet filling. I thought maybe I'd try to make it myself and see if I could make a lower calorie version, but am not even sure what to…
  • That's funny. I was going to respond OMG! And then I looked and saw the last posty had beat me to it. But OMG anyway. And thanks for sharing! I just got a nifty little pan at Williams Sonoma that has little rounded out wells to allow you to make little round, filled pancakes. I'm totally into that right now, so this recipe…
  • First of all, welcome! Second. Best success in your fitness goals! I am in school as well, getting a Master's degree, so I know all about time issues! There just are weeks now and then when it piles up too much for me to do much exercise at all, but I don't beat myself up about it. Instead, when I do get the time, I savor…

  • MMmmmm. Thanks for sharing. I truly believe that garlic is what God created on the 8th day!
  • Sure - that'd be great. (I think)
  • Just wondered if anyone out there has any recipes that use aloe juice? I was told it was a super nutritional thing to add to my diet - just not sure how!?
  • Oh sweetie - your post brought tears to my eyes. I also had a kitten that I lost (almost a year and a half ago now) and I was trying to get back from a trip and be with him before we lost him and didn't make it. I thought I would never ever stop hurting - and it was very hard. :brokenheart: I think because he was a kitten…
  • I have also heard that - that diet drinks actually stimulate sweet food cravings. I'm currently on a "natural eating" craze. I've been able to stick with it nearly 4 months and I do have to say I feel soooo much better, What I do for "fizz" is to pair some natural sparkling water with a really nice juice that I like…
