Facing your fears
Tell me your story of overcoming a fear of yours. 30+ years ago I was robbed while working alone at a small Inn. The man held a gun to my head, I was afraid that I might die. (They caught him and he went to jail) Ever since then, I've been terrified of guns. Would never touch one, hold one or allow one in my home. I've…

Tell me your weird deams
Last night I had a dream that I was hanging out with some friends at Melissa Etheridge's house. It was a very rustic house in the mountains and she sang a couple of songs for us and gave us cookies. Then we left in a plane with no windows which almost crashed into the ocean, but landed in very shallow water so we got out…

Plan my vacation
I live near Las Vegas and had planned on going to Italy with a female friend in 2 weeks. Due to the Coronavirus, we are going to delay the trip but need to get out of town for a week or more to break up our day to day lives a bit. We are completely open to just about anything. Where should we go and why? What should we do…

Relationship self help books
I'm trying to improve my relationships with men I meet, so have turned to books. I've read The 5 Love Languages, which I liked since it made sense to me. Now I'm reading Men are from Mars, Wome are from Venus, not thrilled with it. I don't care how the author keeps calling men "Martians" and women Venetians, or whatever…

Need to vent
I left my husband about a year and a half ago. He came to our marriage with nothing but I loved him and brought him into my somewhat privileged world. 20 years later settling our divorce, I gave him 2 houses, one to live in and one that's rented out, a car and 200k in an IRA, all which I funded, all debt free. I found out…

Great first date, sort of
I had a coffee date this morning. It went so well that we walked to the market and bought a bag of carrots to feed to some horses and goats which were about a 2 mile walk away. After that, we decided to go to brunch together. He's funny, a gentleman, even sang to me as we slow danced for the horses. But once we were…

Crossing the street
I walk around my small town a lot. When using a crosswalk and cars are waiting on my I always pick up my pace or jog to clear the roadway. When I'm driving and am waiting on someone in the crosswalk, they usually seem to just walk a slow pace and don't seem to care that they are holding up traffic. Which type are you,…

Astrology and love
I'm back on the dating sites (ugh) and have recently started paying attention to how my astrological sign matches up with men I've been talking to and meeting. After our first meet, I'll look up our compatibility according to our signs. So far they seem pretty accurate. What do y'all think?

Divorce
I picked up my final divorce decree today. My friends are all congratulating me, I don't know how to respond. Even though it was my decision, I'm saddened that my 20+ year relationship didn't last. Any connection we had was lost, never to be found again despite therapy. I still say he's a good man, just not the man for me…

Explain this to me
I've read over and over that one can't build muscle while in a calorie deficit. I've been lifting weights for about a month while in a deficit and am steadily able to lift heavier weights with more reps. I'm confused.

Ganglion cyst
I have what I think is a Ganglion cyst on the top of my foot which is causing me a lot of pain, enough that I try to limit my walking. I've had it for months, but just recently has it gotten bad. I have an appointment next week to get it looked at. I'm wondering if any of you fine people have had one and had it treated.…

I need a little help
I am a 60 year old woman. I lost 90ish pounds over a couple of years using MFP and have maintained for 4 years with little work 5 months ago I left my husband of 20 years and moved out of state. We are very fortunate that we have no children and are financially secure. I moved to a small town where I already had a couple…

Shin splints
I seem to have developed shin splints. I typically walk 5-7 miles per day at about 3.8-4 miles per hour on either the high school track or treadmill and typically log close to 20k steps per day. I also do Jazzercise 2x weekly and lift light weights a couple of times per week. I am a 60 year old female, 160 lbs, 5'6",…

How to measure for jeans
I've always worn my pants in sizes like 22w , where I started, to 8 or 10 where I am now. I see jeans advertised in a different way of sizing, like 27, etc Where do I measure to find what size I am when sizes are listed in this style? Or is there a conversion chart somewhere that I can figure out what may fit? I live in a…

Zoodles
I just bought a spiralizer, made some zucchine noodles, tried to squeeze out water, sauteed in olive oil and topped with spaghetti sauce. It's tasty but super watery. What are your tips and tricks?

Jogging questions
I'm usually a walker in the winter averaging 5-7 miled 6 days a week. Summer is for swimming. For some unknown reason, yesterday I decided to try a slow jog while I was walking a local track. I haven't jogged in over 40 years so just tried half a lap which was fairly easy. I walked a couple laps, then did a slow lap and a…

Kombucha, fact or fiction?
What are your experiences with Kombucha? I keep hearing about all kinds of health benefits, but to me it sounds like woo. Have you reaped benefits from this magic elixer? How does it taste? Depending on your responses, I may buy some to try it out and see if I like it. Any favorite brands or flavors? If I decide to jump…

Bloat relief
I live in the mountains and am going to the ocean for Thanksgiving for several days. Every time I go to sea level, I retain water making me very uncomfortable. Usually I can't even wear my rings. It wasn't so uncomfortable when I weighed 95 lbs more because I basically wore a tent everywhere, now I wear clothes that fit me…

Back injury from jogging?
For the first time a couple of weeks ago I mixed some light jogging in with my treadmill walking. I would walk 3/4 of a mile at 4 mph, then jogged for 1/4 mile at 5mph until I reached 5 miles. I felt great afterwards, no pain anywhere. I was quite active the rest of the day, deep cleaning my car, housework, etc., still…

Paddle boarding
I'm going to Hawaii for a week next month (yay!) and want to try paddle boarding. 2 years ago I had surgery to repair a torn meniscus, which didn't work. The surgeon told me the only answer was a knee replacement, I told him "goodbye" and have done all I can to strengthen it. I swim almost every day and walk 5-7 miles 5…

I FINALLY see the difference
Over the past 3 years, I've lost about 95 pounds through eating right and exercising, but I still hadn't been able to wrap my head around my current size. We live in the mountains and have a game cam set up to see what critters visit us overnight. I pulled the SD card today and loaded the photos onto my computer and saw…

Bone density
My doctor did a bone density test on me and told me he hadn't seen a woman my age (58) with such great density in a very long time. Yay! I'm curious, how much does bone density affect one's weight?

Unwanted attention
As a young girl I was molested by an older cousin when our families would get together. As a result, I became very overweight in an attempt to ward off boys and as I got older, men. I was in my 40's before I got into therapy to deal with my feelings. I met my future husband and got married at the ripe old age of 44 and we…

Fitbit calorie adjustment
This morning I walked 6 miles at our high school track, then I came home and pulled weeds for a couple of hours. After lunch I pruned trees for about an hour. My Fitbit Charge shows 24,000 steps and 1,300 exercise calories. The steps seem about right but the exercise calories seem way excessive. Your thoughts?

I finally figured it out
I always kind of wondered why MFP chose the word"kitten" as a substitute for swear words. Today I found out. I spent 4 hours washing every window and window screen in our house. As I came back inside after putting the final screen back in place, I saw that our 2 cats had already eagerly placed nose prints on nearly every…

Twitchy thighs
Often when I walk at a brisk pace for a few miles or more, my thighs twitch once I stop. It feels almost like bubbles on my skin, I like to imagine that it's fat cells bursting. Can anyone tell me what's really happening?
