Awesome High Protein Lean Garden Turkey Burgers
I make some Totally Awesome Lean, Veggie-loaded, High-Protein Garden Turkey Burgers. Everyone in the family loves them, even the skeptical menfolk. To keep life easier, my trick is to make up a huge run all at one time. I buy the big 5-pound package at the warehouse club, make them all, and then flash freeze them so that I…

Looking for fish taco recipes
I asked in the recipe swap group, but thought I'd ask here... Hoping for responses. I tried fish tacos at The Cheesecake Factory & loved them. So now I want to make them. What kinds of fish do you use? How do you prepare it? What seasonings do you use? What fillings (e.g. avocado slices)? Do you make your own salsa? If…

And, the BEST Interval Fitness Timer is...
Okay, my head is spinning from reading reviews online of Everlast vs. Gymboss vs. Timex watches vs. yadda yadda yadda. And, the reviews are all over the spectrum. Some people are panning the same products folks are raving about. *sigh* So, I figured I'd pose the question here... with my MFP buds... to ask. Which fitness…

Combination Resistance & Cardio Exercises Routine
I am looking to gather exercises for variety to put into routines for doing resistance-cardio. In other words, exercises that get your heart rate up, but also incorporate some strength training (e.g. dumbbells, lunges, push ups, etc.) to build LBM. I have been doing the DVD 30 Day Shred, but it is BORING to do every day. I…

HGH produced during workout gives window for fatburning
Okay, I met with a "personal training assessor" last night and was told something that is either, (a) really useful and will totally alter how I approach my workouts in the future or (b) the biggest pile of unmitigated horse flops that I have ever heard. So, I come here, to y'all, to find out which it is. <g> He told me…

Is it .8 to 1g protein per POUND or per kg of LBM?
Recently, I've seen it be recommended both ways. But, these are two very different calculations as 1kg is almost double 1 lbs. So, which is right and what is your basis for saying so?

If you don't keep increasing weights, you'll get weak
I have been doing the Stronglifts program, but I'm not to sure about what he says. I'm doing the program to gain strength & firm up my glutes, thighs, arms & core. Eventually, when I get to a shape & strength I like, I will just want to stay there, not into body building & the super defined bicep look. I just want strong &…

How can the potassium nutrient value change with cooking?
Okay... I was looking at the "Top 10 Highest in Potassium Foods" on this page: http://www.healthaliciousness.com/articles/food-sources-of-potassium.php And something I read on there confused me completely. It said: 2: Dark Leafy Greens (Spinach) 1 Cup (Raw - 30g) has 167mg (5% DV) but 1 Cup (Cooked - 180g) has 839mg (24%…

Proper kettlebell form - who is right?
Okay, I have two different kettlebell workout DVDs and they seem to directly contradict each other on proper form. I just watched the new one today... and so now, I'm confused. My first DVD suggested a form akin to squats. In other words, back straight, natural curve to spine retained and essentially tailbone out to back.…

Macro balance? Protein vs. Carbs
I am trying to decide what to do & how to balance things. I have recently had a major weight loss stall which lasted months till I did a full diet break for a couple weeks & ate full maintenance calories to get my system reset. As this was going on, totally conflicting advice was suggested to me. Some have said I stalled…
-
Breathing coordinated to exercise - how important?
I do workouts to videos that often direct HOW you should breathe during exercises. For example, Jillian Michaels tells us to breathe out on every punch while doing fairly rapid punches. If I exhale & inhale that often, I almost feel like I'd be hyperventilating. Other exercises recommend that you exhale with certain moves…

Truly good strawberry ice cream?
Have any of you had any luck in finding a truly good dairy-free strawberry ice cream? Even when Tofutti makes "neopolitan" ice cream bars, they put wild raspberry flavor in them, not strawberry. Is it just impossible to make? Has anyone found a good one yet?

Cooking with Oils and Marinades & Logging it
I want to account for all my calories and I do it as accurately as possible. I even count breath mints. I don't want a generic, well count everything and over estimate - it's safer that way. That's like driving 45 mph on the highway because you don't know if the speed limit is 55, 65 or 70 mph. It doesn't make sense and it…

Need Stronglifts 5x5 advice clarification
Anyone doing strong lifts... when it says to increase by 5 pounds each time, is that each time you do either set A or set B or only after you've done both sets and are starting back on set A?

Need to find new lower calorie Non-Dairy butter
For cooking, I use Earth Balance. But. It is very high in calories (100 per tbsp). I have been using & love the Best Life Buttery Spread. But, it has been discontinued & I'm on my last tub of it. :( It tasted great & was only 50 calories. So what's out there that's lower calorie, dairy-free & tastes good.

Need advice on a new scale
Please do not just post I have an X & love it. Please provide the following info: 1. Make & model of your scale 2. Why you recommend it or don't like it 3. Whether you have ever tested its accuracy & how (e.g., put a kettlebell on it a few times) 4. Which features it has & how they work ... Do you like them? Are they easy…

Ponytails are SEXY? For real?
Okay, a ponytail to me is a quick, cool way to wear my hair when I'm getting hot & sweaty working out. See?: But on a recent episode of NCIS, I was surprised to hear the male characters talking in a group about how SEXY a ponytail is. Really?!? *smh* So, I called up my bestie and asked if she'd ever heard that. Nope, but…

Alternating Ripped & Shredded - Anyone else?
I find it utterly tedious to do the exact same workout over and over day after day. I got sick of 30-day Shred by 1/2 way thru level one. So I'm going to take longer to finish by mixing up the videos alternating days. Anyone else tried this or want to?

How do you account for calories in marinades?
When you marinate a piece of meat in a dressing, how do you count the calories? If I put it in 1 tbsp of dressing, and there's still a tablespoon in the baggie when I remove the meat, do I count anything? I just put in a teaspoon assuming there was some impact on the total. Thoughts?

3 month stall - thinking of trying a reset
OK, no scientific cites or whatever, but from my personal experience, I have to say that weight loss is not simply a matter of eating a net calorie deficit. I am & have been on a deficit. But since around mid-November, I have gained, lost, regained, & re-lost the same few pounds with no real progress. I have finally maybe…

Be honest with yourself cuz YOU will be the one cheated!
Should I log fruits and vegetables? What about hard candies that I just suck on? Yes, duh, log it all. Should I log house cleaning, food prep or farting as exercise? No. If you didn't lift items heavy enough to be true strength training (e.g. baling hay) or get and keep your heart rate in the aerobic zone as you would do…

30 day Shred: Fitbit vs Bodyfit vs HRM vs Striiv etc.
Just curious, since so many of us use different devices to track our activity... what do the different devices say this workout gives you? I know I did the 30 Day Shred today (Level 1, Day 6 for me). Per my pedometer (not a good device for measuring this activity), I "walked" 3/4 of a mile and only burned 40.1 calories.…

"Devil 6"
So, just how Freudian was it that when I finished my workout today & tried to say Level 1 Day 6, what came out was "Devil 6 done"? LOL

Raw eggs? Safe eggs? Pasteurized eggs? Thoughts?
Okay, growing up, I was a runner. Ran 7 to 10 miles a day and started everyday with a quasi homemade eggnog protein shake... decades before they were popular.... I'd crack a raw egg into my one cup mixer, some milk, some vanilla and chug. I was always healthy as a horse. I used to make hollandaise sauce too (using a raw…

Can't get stores to carry Rosemary baguette/rolls
One of my fave brands of rolls, Against the Grain, makes a Rosemary Baguette and a Rosemary Roll. I requested that the stores near me get those flavors in. Even though they carry the other Against the Grain products, they won't bring these in because they have "artificial flavors" added. Frustrating. I eat gluten free…

Beware of KFC if you're gluten free
This place is so not okay for us. The foods you would think are safe (like grilled chicken & cole slaw) contain gluten. They have only like 3 things or so that are GF. Just learned this on another celiac site & thought I'd share the warning.

Yummy Ryeless Rye bread that is GF!
I have missed rye bread since going GF. Last night, I discovered that Trader Joe's has a "ryeless rye" bread. Had my first piece this morning. Yummy rye toast. I do wish the pieces were bigger. But the taste is yummy and the texture is decent.

How to ease the gluten reaction if you have it by mistake
I had this happen to me this week. It was not fun. The guy preparing the food at Kroger Marketplace told me the grilled tuna was gluten free... turns out that it was not. Bummer. I bloated like a whale and looked positively preggers. Also had to take immodium. So, I'm wondering... is there ANYTHING that y'all have tried…

The MOST AMAZING GF tastes like real artisan rolls ever!
I just tried the artisan rolls made by Against the Grain. I picked mine up at Earth Fare. They are sold elsewhere too. This one lady raved about them till I had to try them. They are OUTRAGEOUS in calories (265 per roll) and price (like $6+ for 4 rolls)... but they are WORTH IT!!! Totally divine and you would NEVER in a…
