7 factors of heart health, how do you measure up?
Not sure if this is the best forum for this... So I was watching part 1 of the HBO series, The Weight if the Nation (really good so far) and was shocked by this: There are 7 factors to Cardiovascular Health 1. Non Smoker 2. Maintaining a lean body mass 3. Regular physical activity (150 min/week moderate or 75 min/week…

What is the deal with faceless body part profile pics?
I get that people are proud of their abs, arms, legs, etc. But if they are really that proud of it why not post a picture that includes thier face. Just seems a little odd to me, it's not like they are explicit photos that are going to get anyone in trouble. Anyone care to explain?

Alzheimer's Disease and the Paleo Diet
Here is an interesting article on the effects of the paleo diet on brain health, particulary with regard to carbohydrates and cholesterol. There are multiple links within the article to the original research papers if you care to read deeper. Not trying to start a big discussion here on the benefits or risks of paleo, just…

Stuck on push-ups
I've been stuck at 6-7 continous standard push ups for what feels like months. Sometimes I feel like I'll never be able to bang em out, and other times I feel like I'm making great progress. (I couldn't even do one in Jan) Please tell me it will get better....

Lochte (Olympic swimmer) and nutrition
Did anyone catch last night when interviewing Lochte and asking what has been a help in his training? I was so happy to hear him talk about getting his nutrition in line and quiting eating junk food. He also credited strength training.

Starting off
Great idea for a group Sevinmaya, thanks. I guess I'll just start us off with a random topic. Why is gaining weight your goal? For me, I'm working really hard on gaining muscle mass (which matters to me) and I need to make a weight cut off in a few months (which I don't care about the scale but I need to meet an arbitrary…

Breakfast
I've found that if I don't hit around 500 calories for breakfast I almost never catch up to my goal by the end of the day. The goal of large/double breakfast begins! Today: Breakfast 1: Fage greek yogurt rasberries walnuts flax and honey Breakfast 2, about 2 hours later: eggs salsa cheddar

Ankle weakness?
So I've changed my running style to pose and have had great improvements. I've noticed that my arch still collapses a bit and my ankle rolls in a bit during the landing. It doesn't hit the ground or anything, but a definite drop. I'm thinking this could be a weakness in the ankle in addition to the low arches. Does anyone…

Reduced fat mayo: blasphemy

Ladies fashion
I just wanted to share that Target has some ladies gym skirts right now that are really flattering and flexible. I got the magenta one to the WOD the other night and my old Eeor buddy commented that I looked very nice. It was sweet.

Burpee Bank
Someone just posted this on another site and thought it was a clever idea to share, hope he doesn't mind: "So I came up with an idea to keep all of us accountable for the way we eat while getting a workout from it. Every time you eat something not in your diet plan you add 10 burpees to the burpee bank. The week will go…

Varying calories daily/cycling
Hey all, just an observation I've made aobut my eating habits since tracking here and thought I'd share and see if you all had any thoughts or do the same. I've been tracking to ensure I'm getting enough calories and protein. When we switched to Paleo I unintentionally went very low-cal, I wasn't tracking and always felt…

So torn
I'm so torn between what I want to see in the mirror right now and what I know I need for the future. I know I have to gain mass to continue to increase my lean muscle mass, but at the same time it is a struggle to not want to lean back out, to really show those new muscles. I was so loving how cut I was looking when I…

Taking my mom and mom in-law to the gym today
We are starting the New Rules stage 1. Hoping it goes really well, they have never done anything like this and are excited/anxious. Hoping they love the weights as much as I do. Have you ever gotten a family member started at the gym? Did you have any success?

Gluten and Celiac
I just attended a Webinar on Gluten-Free and Celiac. Could have been much better, a bit boring and didn't give as much info as I would have liked but a few highlights I thought were interesting. Oh, and May is Celiac Awareness month 1 in 133 have Celiac, the numbers have doubled every 15 years since 1974. (A rise has…

Homemade protein bars
So I'm going to attempt to make some and I was searching ideas. A lot of them have you bake the mixture after mixing in the protein powder, I've heard that heating protein powder will denature it and make it less effective... thoughts?

Drop in resting HR.. lightheaded
So as part of my fitness goals I wanted to lower my resting HR. It appears I've done this, yay. But.. I've been slightly lightheaded/dizzy since last night, took my pulse after doing some google search and found it to be between 56-60 bpm. Prior to my fitness ramping up in the last 3 months I have been at 72bpm for years.…

MFP under calorie goal: not a positive announcement
So I'm a little annoyed with MFP and how it announces when you are under your calorie goal when you complete your diary as though it is a good thing. (And then the following "way to goes and congrats" that ensue in comments, even for WAY under) Isn't the idea to set a correct goal and then try to get as close as possible…

So I know fat isn't supposed to redistribute, but...
I lost a bunch of fat and gained muscle in the first several months of primal/paleo and crossfit, yay! Then I realized I had to gain some pounds back for a weigh in (dumb I know) so I've upped my calories. I've slowly gained back some fat and continue to gain muscle. What's funny is that the fat is not distributing to the…

Calorie top off
What's your go to food when you've got to get more calories in for the end of the day? Here are some I fall back on often... When I'm low on fats I grab a spoonful of coconut oil, 60 calories and 7g fat. A spoonful is hard to choke down but I dipped strawberries in it the other night: DELISH. A protein shake is an easy and…

Increasing bone density
Does anyone have a good article reference for showing increasing bone density through stregth training?
