Does it bother you that NOBODY NOTICES!
I'm sorry, I'm pouting. I lost 25 pounds this summer. I've lost 4" on my waist, 3 on my hips, and 2" on my bust. My clothes fit completely differently. My face looks thinner. My husband and my father and my mother all tell me I look great. I am now mid-range BMI for my height. I haven't been this weight for 20 years. AND…

Less fat/more weight?
I think I know the answer to this, but it is still bizarre to me. This is the third time this has happened. I lose 20 pounds, 3 pounds from my target weight. But I look flabby - I can grab and handful of loose 'apron fat'. Suddenly - literally overnight - I gain 3 pounds. The day after that it starts to go away and within…

Buy little plates
I was reading a bunch of posts about how hard it is to stop cravings and how hard it is to just eat small portions. I like things like ice cream and often eat just a little - like a quarter cup or less. And I'm good with that. It really, really helps to have little tiny bowls. You know those little tiny ones they use in…

Hit my target weight and AGH! more to go
I have been on MFP every day since April 27th, even logging everything offline while I was traveling in South Africa. I have lost at least 20 pounds (I changed scales in the middle and I think I lost 5 pounds twice because the scales didn't match). I hit my target goal and am in the healthy BMI range. My clothes looks…

My engagement ring fits!
Thank you Daneworthy who posted on this this morning! One of my silly goals was to be able to wear my wedding and engagement rings for my 32 anniversary in November. I took them off a few years back when I was traveling and couldn't get them back on because my hands were too big. I wear my husband's wedding ring with mine…

Which exercise? Weight loss weakens back
I've lost 20 pounds and added/strengthened/toned muscles. The fat I've lost is mostly in my stomach and bottom. That's great! The bad news is that I now have a lot of extra space in the my middle and the muscles that strengthen my back are essentially too big to do the job properly. A lot of women have this after they have…

Monthly Weight Gain/Loss without period?
I am in that transitional time where I went for a few months without my period and then it came back again (and how). This month I keep feeling my period SHOULD start (and get all the physical symptoms) and I get the water weight gain and other twitches and then . . . . nothing yet. Now I seem to be losing all the water…

Almond milk and seltzer water
I have been buying almond milk to up my son's calcium. Neither of us is crazy about the plain stuff and the sweetened is just that - sweetened. I find it tastes kind of like milk of magnesia. We both found adding seltzer water to it makes it taste MUCH better. Add a tiny bit of syrup and it is still lower calorie and…

I've still got pounds to go, but . . .
I was feeling really good about the fact that I'd lost 18 pounds, then glanced in a passing mirror last night and feel depressed that I'm still not there yet. So a a reminder of what I HAVE accomplished . . . All my clothes fit again! My husband and father both told me I look gorgeous I had to try on six belts last night…

Walking pain
I walk back and forth to work (10 minutes each way, sometimes home for lunch too) and around 45 minutes to an hour every day after dinner. My iPhone app says I'm averaging around 4.5-5.0 mph. I also work at a standing desk. My right hip, right buttuck, and upper right leg is killing me. It almost feels like it's ready to…

14 year old boys, chocolate cake, and d & d parties
SO my soon-to-be 14 year old is having a sleepover tomorrow for his birthday. I am currently baking an absolutely GORGEOUS double chocolate cake shaped like a 10 sided dungeons and dragons dice (don't ask). My son must be the only 14 year old in the country who has been scheming about exactly how he wants his birthday…

Okay: kale smoothies are great
Whoever wrote the post the other day about kale: THANK YOU! I eat lots of kale anyway, but had never tried it in a smoothie. You're right - you can throw it in a regular smoothie (skim milk, fruit, ice) and it turns bright green, but you can't taste it. It's refreshing. My 14 year old came home and drank a 16 oz glass.…

Natural protein sources?
I always feel I am under my protein goals. I eat eggs almost every day (we have chickens), kefir, ice milk, and yoghurt, and a little meat almost every day. I don't eat much cheese any more as it has too many calories. My protein hovers at around 20% every week. Any suggestions? I don't want any supplements -just food with…

New Scale: New Weight AGH!
So, with my old scale I had lost 20 pounds and would have hit my initial weight goal by now. BUT as I got closer and closer to my goal, it wiggled more and more (older spring scale). I bought a new digital scale which is incredibly reliable. Now I'm reliably heavier! When I bought it last week I immediately 'gained' 5…

Reading your old diaries is educational
I am a compulsive food logger and it's been really, really helpful to me learning where my extra calories were creeping in. And today I the scale read 20 pounds down from my starting weight (though I won't post that for a few more days). But I just went through all my food logs for the last two months and it was…

Lowest weight since 1993
Not there yet, but I really am happy today. I know in 1993 I was trying to lose the twenty pounds I had put on during a job search and struggling to hit 165. I only made it to 170. Twenty years later, I'm here again! Once I hit 165 I still need that last 10 pounds, but what the heck. Keep on swimming!

Playing with the Body Weight Simulator
I like playing with numbers. The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disorders has a body weight simulator here: http://bwsimulator.niddk.nih.gov/ I was playing around with it, trying to figure out what my activity level was. I took my past weight loss as a model (I started at 188 and am now 172) and…

What's your favorite dinner when you're out of cals?
I came across this by accident when I was adding in my calories for last night. It's a recipe from Jamie Oliver for eggplant salad. We always eat it as a whole dinner. Cut an eggplant in quarters and steam it until soft. Shred it with your fingers and put it in a bowl. While it is hot, add a dressing of 4 T balsamic…

My clothes fit!
Not as fantastic triumphal news as those amazing folks who have lost 100 pounds or have beat cancer, but I'm happy anyway. Ten pounds down and all my clothes slip on again. Pants loose. Shirts flattering. No feeling after sitting too long that everything is just a tad too tight. Small victories! Thirteen pounds left to go.…

A restaurant triumph! Walking away from bad food.
Today - an absolute first for me in a restaurant. Not eating an expensive meal because it was GROSS and FATTENING. I've been traveling 3 weeks and managed to stay under my net calories - triumph! I went out tonight - the night before I fly home - and was REALLY hungry and decided to treat myself to a nice dinner - lamb…

Abdominal fat
Both my husband and I have been using MFP around a month. Very, informative for both us. This question is about my husband. He's a very serious tai chi practitioner. For the last 10 years he's been working out daily. For the last year he's been teaching twice/three times a week, working out seven days a week. He works out…
