fitbit flex & polar heartrate moniter
I finally broke down & got a fitbit flex. I also have an old polar heart rate monitor, which I use every time I workout. My question is - do you take your fitbit off when you put on the HR monitor to exercise? Right now I am doing Jillian Michaels Body Revolution. If I leave the fitbit on when I workout, will it skew the…

Teenagers and breakfast
I know that breakfast for adults is not important. I personally am not a breakfast eater. But what about teenagers? My 13 yr old daughter want to lose about 12 lbs. Looking at what she eats during the day & the fact that she is not a big breakfast eater either, I'm wondering if she could cut back on breakfast. I'm thinking…

HIIT duration
When doing HIIT, how long do you go fast & how long do you recover? I mostly use elliptical type machines. I try to get my HR up to about 90% which takes about 30 - 60 sec. Then bring it back down to about 80% which takes 1 - 3 min. I usually go for 20 - 30 min.

Anyone who never/rarely weighs themselves
Who never or rarely weighs themselves while trying to lose weight? You just go by fit of clothing, how you look and feel. Why did you chose not to weigh yourself? Do you feel you still stay on track with your weightloss goals? Sometimes I feel like I care too much about the number on the scale, but I'm not sure I'm ready…

Is a spotter needed with SL?
I am going to start SL next week (going to start w/3x5). Do I need to have a spotter with me for some of the exercises? I'm going to check today if my gym has a power rack (I go to YMCA). I workout alone.

When to start bulk/cut??
I'm curious when most people start to bulk. Do you wait until you are at your goal weight? I have lost 35lb and have about 60 to go. I have extremely high body fat  . I have been doing minimal strength training for several months, but now that I have a gym membership I am increasing the time I spend lifting & working…

Questions for runners
I've just started running. I'm starting by alternating walking/running. For those of you that run regularly, I have a couple questions. How many days a week do you run? Is it okay to run 5-6 days a week? How long do you run - time and distance? Do you plan to run for say 30 min no matter the distance or do plan to run 3…

quick convenient high energy breakfast for kids
My kids have state testing this week & their teachers recommended a high energy/filling breakfast to get them through the morning. Yesterday I did a healthy smoothie & I will do a crockpot egg bake later in the week. Eggs give my daughter a tummy ache. Any suggestions? Thanks.

TDEE Calc for morbidly obese
What is a good calculator to use to determine TDEE for someone that is very obese? I've read several posts that say the more overweight the person, the less accurate the calculator. The stats I have are: F, age 62, 4'11, 250-260 lbs, very sedentary. Thanks for any suggestions.

BMR - Total or Net
I know this is topic is discussed A LOT on here, but after reading all kinds of posts, I am looking for clarification. The consensus is don't eat below your BMR - I get that. My question is - is that net calories? My BMR is about 1600, so does that mean I should net at least that? Right now I have my calories set at 1800…

30 Day Shred Daily??
I just started 30DS today & was planning on doing Mon - Fri. There is a lot of strength training in there with weights. I know that when lifting weights you are supposed to rest muscles 48 hrs, so if I work my arms on Mon, I should wait until Wed to work those same muscles. Would the same principle apply with 30DS? Should…

Need advice from those with high fat macros
I posted this on the general forum, but thought maybe I'd get a better response hear. Being a child of the 80's, I am trying to get past to "fat is bad" mentality. I love high fat foods & I always believed that was why I was fat. I've always been one to eat high fat foods over sweets. My question is - for those of you that…

High fat diet
Being a child of the 80's, I am trying to get past to "fat is bad" mentality. I love high fat foods & I always believed that was why I was fat. I've always been one to eat high fat foods over sweets. My question is - for those of you that have your fat macros set fairly high (say 40% or over; I am trying p25/f40/c35), what…

Lose weight, earn money
I came across a this website a while back & was curious if anyone has tried it. You put in money (each group is different) & then you set a goal of losing 4% weight in 4 weeks. The winners split the pot. So for me at 210 lbs, I would need to lose 8.4 lbs at 2.1 a week. Someone that weighs 130 would need to lose 5.2 at 1.3…

anyone not tracking macros, calories only
I am curious if there are people out there that are tracking their calories only & not c/f/p? I do currently have mine set at what I feel is a balanced ratio for me (c45/f30/p25), but I don't actively make sure I balance them each day. I know a lot of people follow the IIFYM. If it's true that all that matters is eating at…

best oil to use
I rarely deep fry foods, but a few times a year I want real deep fried food. Today I make fried chicken thighs. I used vegetable oil. I used to think canola oil was the healthiest, but based on stuff I've read, I'm not so sure anymore. So, what do you think is the best oil to fry with? I am also on a tight budget, so it…

It still hurts
You would think at 42 yrs old and after being teased about weight through most of my childhood, names wouldn't hurt anymore, but it does, even when it is not intentional. I was helping my daughter babysit today. I had stepped out the room for awhile & when I came back the 7 yr old boy was hiding. He says "where is the fat…

late night exercise
Does anyone exercise right before bed. I ended up going almost 300 cal over goal today. I would like to burn off at least half (if not all) but won't have a chance until about 10:30, then I would go straight to bed.

Honey & cinnamon
I have been reading some on the health benefits of mixing honey & cinnamon w/hot water. Does anyone do this? Either for weight loss, lower blood sugar, etc? If so, did it work? Do you do it has a drink. I have been doing a mix of honey, cinnamon & peanut butter with either whole grain bread or fruit for breakfast. Any…

Sore after biking
I went on my first outdoor bikeride (about 3 miles, 30 minutes) of the season & my thighs are KILLING me! I have been exercising fairly consistantly for the last 4 months - treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike, weights. But right know I feel like I haven't used my legs in years. They hurt so bad I actually get the shakes…

Looking for friends
I have been on MFP for about 3 months & have not taken the time to look for friends (I have a few personal friends on here). Not because I don't like having friends, I just didn't really understand the reason for randomly picking friends I don't know. Just now I read a post from someone wondering the same thing I was -…

calcium
For those of you that don't drink milk or eat any dairy - where do you get your calcium? Do you take a supplement or get it from food sources. I eat/drink dairy, but I find that if I am going over my calories the first thing I cut is milk. Most of the foods that are high in calcium are not my favorites - I can eat some,…

Little worried about trip
I will be out of the country for a week w/o my computer & my phone is very basic (no data plan) so I will not be tracking. I'm okay with not eating at a deficit for 6 day, but I really don't want to go over maintenance. I just hope I have learned enough to make the right choices while I am gone.

Target/Maximum Heart Rate
I have figured my THR/MHR to be between 125 (70%) - 156 (85%) (depending on method used). When I exercise - especially c25k & kickboxing my heart rate spikes for a few seconds throughout to 160 - 170. Is this dangerous? Should I try harder to keep it below 156? I am looking for knowledgable (I know, I should ask my doctor…

BMR/TDEE net calories

Gained almost a 1/2 lb
Intellectually I know that weekly fluctuations are normal & that a .4 lb gain one week in no way takes away from the 15lbs I've lost over the last 3 months. However, emotionally, it is a completely different story. My brain tells my that this is nothing to worry about, that it could just be the splurge I had last night for…
