What's up with the expiration date on thread police?
What is up with all of the people bashing people posting in old threads and then beating themselves up for it too? Is this just an internet etiquette issue that makes no sense in terms of functionality? I think so. Why shouldn't people tack on to an existing thread if they want to bring the issue back up? Seems to make…

Pole elbow--tendonitis?
Anyone suffer from tennis or golfers' elbow (pain on outside or inside of elbow)? I guess it's tendonitis? Mine has been pretty intense. I ice when I get done with my pole fit instruction and I used anti-inflammatory pain relievers, as well as sometimes an elbow brace. Aside from quitting pole for a month or two, anyone…

Sprinting Workout Ideas?
I've been running off and on for several years and have gotten okay-ish at 5K trail runs. I have no desire to become a distance runner. However, lately I've been incorporating running sprints into my exercise routine (which is mostly Crossfit, yoga, olympic lifting, hiking, & powerlifting). I'm really starting to like…

CF Anniversary & Celebratory PR
This last week was my one year anniversary of starting my CF elements class. I had never played sports and my exercising consisted mostly of lifting with machines off and on, swimming, hiking, a little casual running (slow C25K stuff) and pole dancing. Since starting CF, I have changed completely in terms of how I view…

shoes for running WODs
I WOD in Chuck Taylors unless it's a heavy Oly WOD with little running or jumping (in that case, I use my lifters). I'm perfectly comfy using them for jump rope, box jumps, etc. What are you gals using for WODs with more running? I get so torn on what to wear on things like a day with a lot of heavy deadlifts combined with…

Binge Eating Recovery
I have successfully been in binge eating recovery for about a year. I recently came across this article by one of my faves, Nia Shanks of Lift Like a Girl and it pretty much echoes everything I did and how I changed my thinking. I wanted to share it with anyone else who is struggling and offer them some positive energy:…

Hatch Squat Program Reviews
Anyone ever done the Hatch squat 12 week progression? Just wanted to see what you thought about it for an intermediate squat program...I like the idea of combining front and back squats on the same day. Just wanted to get some feedback.

need comp strategy advice wall balls
So in my comp tomorrow (my first one), we have one WOD that has DU's or singles 144, 72 wall balls, and 36 ab mat sit ups. 12 min AMRAP. Advice on wall balls? Not a strength of mine but no longer a goat. I am accustomed to 14# but may only be using 10# tomorrow if I decide to go in the scaled group. 12x6? or a descending…

looking for CrossFit women pals
I just started CrossFit a month ago after years of lifting and doing lots of other types of workouts on my own. I'm really loving the addition CrossFit has been to my life so far and I can see it becoming so much more. I am empowered by the other women at my box and even by myself as I learn there's been some kind of power…

When You Can't Get Your Kicks Off Bacon Like Before
So, for a while a couple of years ago, I was pescetarian for about 6-8 months. I felt awful. I started adding in wild meat and eventually, the slippery slope led me first to the occasional chicken sausage, then a small steak and eventually a full-blown bacon addiction. The problem is this: I just can't get the same high…

cherry picking
Okay, so we've all heard it: no cherry-picking your WODs. But, if you're running other programs outside of CF, and CF is just part of your overall training program, isn't cherry-picking a must? For example, I am a running a Wendler 5/3/1 progression on several lifts. I also do Olympic lifting training on Saturdays for a…

Mental Toughness
I would love some feedback from serious athletes who have developed effective strategies for increasing mental toughness during a workout. Specifically, I am thinking along the lines of strategies to push through a long or particularly challenging workout where continuing with significant discomfort is necessary. I've come…

Back Squat and DL almost equal? Why?
So, why would my deadlift and my backsquat be almost equal? Every other female I see has a much higher deadlift than back squat (I'm at about 225 dead and 215 back squat). Ideas?

Great Article re Transformation, Scale & Body Image Issues
Great blog post about how CrossFit takes your mind off the scale and puts it back on what your body can do and how the scale is not the best measure of success! http://reganreedblog.wordpress.com/2014/03/13/all-about-the-numbers/

Morbidly Obese to Obese & Why BMI Is Weird
I was just looking through some old Christmas photos and I decided to show my success in the last 2 years. I decided I wanted to get healthy for my 40s so I started my most recent journey shortly before I was about to turn 39. I am 40 now. The funny thing about it is that I am still approaching 30 BMI, even though my body…

Chuck Taylors?
Hey, All, I have been CF'ing for a couple of months and I need some new shoes. All my shoes are cheaper New Balance running shoes. I do a lot of heavy lifting at the regular gym as well as CF because my box (only one in 65 miles) does not necessarily have the hours that work with my weird schedule to get to open gym or to…

Female Recruits in the Marines Failing Pullup Tests
Interesting article: https://www.facebook.com/NPR/posts/10152213566866756 Basically an article about female Marine recruits failing pullup standards... What's your take? Is it a training issue or are women genetically disadvantaged in doing pull ups? Are pull ups a relevant measure of readiness for being a Marine? Should…

Looking for Fitness (Not Diet) Friends
So, I have some great pals and I've been on MFP for over a year. However, in that year I've really changed quite a bit from being focused on stopping my binge eating to being much more balanced in my eating. I am looking for exercise pals! I'm not particularly focused on weight loss right now, but I am focused on eating…

Clean Eating Bashing?
So I notice lately it's pretty trendy to bash those who eat clean (whatever that means to them) or paleo. I know there are arguments on both sides of the fence regarding whether or not a calorie is a calorie is a calorie, with the body of research suggesting it is but newer research suggesting the types of calories do…

open water swimming non-crawl
Okay here is the deal. I absolutely despise front crawl (I don't know why people call it freestyle, but whatever) swimming. I always have. I took lessons and lessons on it as a kid and it was always my least favorite. I don't want to swim for speed. I only want to swim for myself, across some nearby bodies of water, about…

Water Frequency
I've been struggling with my water intake. My basic problem is this: I work nine hour shifts in a situation where I am usually only able to use the restroom once or twice and I don't get any kind of meal break in the middle. Now, given that I am sleeping 8 hours, and need to hold off the water about 2 hours in advance of…

Capri pants after Labor Day?
Ladies: If you wear capri pants, do you continue to wear them after Labor Day if the weather is still fairly warm (50s-70s, for example)? I know some people HATE capris. I don't. I know they supposedly make you look fatter and they visually cut your body, but I can't really wear shorts or skirts to work, so I like them…

Any gardeners out there?
Hello! I have been into gardening for a couple of years and find it's a great way to know where my food comes from and also stay active. I would like to get more into canning and preserving this fall, so am looking for new ideas for my garden. Also, the seed catalogs are starting to come. Now granted, I can't plant for a…

Yay! Great hike today
So I am excited because I went on an 8 mile hike today and didn't have to wear any snow spikes. First nice spring day hike of the year! Hiked in the hills above Canyon Ferry Reservoir in SW Montana. Saw 5 mountain ranges at one time. Fantastic! Hope you are all having fun and getting some good spring hikes in.

recommendations for DVD for flexibility
Hello, I was wondering if anyone could recommend some specific DVD's for increasing flexibility (not just "do yoga"). When I was growing up, I did gymnastics and ballet and have completely lost my flexibility as an adult. I am open to things that build flexibility in the back and neck, but I'd also like something that…

Bartenders?
I would like to add some other bartenders to discuss some issues that we probably share regarding fitness with weird hours, calories burned while working, how to eat after and during work, sugary shots...you know, the stuff we deal with that makes it hard to stick to the routines we had when we were not tending bar. Anyone…
