Restaurants in Ohio
what are some your favorite healthy places to eat and why? my top ones: 1. Tommy's - Cleveland Heights, OH: i am obsessed with Tommy's! they are a vegetarian/vegan restaurant (with meat options available) that just make quality food - a lot of it is comfort food too, but healthier. lots of whole grains, brown rice, beans,…

so not hungry!
so i'm not doing Atkins, per se. my endocrinologist and dietician have put me on a sort of modified version of the protein sparing modified fast along with Metformin in order to help me drop my weight. so far, so food, except... I AM NOT HUNGRY AT ALL. i have trouble hitting 1000 calories most days and this is BEFORE…

headbands?
i get terrible flyaways when i exercise and i hate hair in my face. i cannot, for the life of me, find a headband that will stay on my head. i've tried the no slip ones, regular ones, and nothing. i don't know if i have a large head or greasy hair or what, but has anyone found a headband that doesn't MOVE during exercise?!

Places to Go
the Metroparks: Cleveland's Metroparks are great! beautiful to walk around, great trails, activities for the kids, some have nature centers as well. each trail is clearly marked (sometimes with the distance), so you'd be hard pressed to get lost. also, they all have a multi-purpose trail for inline skating, biking,…

FitOrbit
has anyone heard of FitOrbit? it's apparently an online personal training program, where you can pick your trainer and then they design a custom program for you. i haven't done TOO much research on the program itself or the trainers, but it seems interesting. and for the price per month of what my gym charges for one…

probably a stupid question, but...
can you do a paleo/primal diet as a vegetarian? my gut instinct is to say no since it appears from the research that i've done that the majority of the protein comes from animal products (i do eat eggs though and on occasion i will eat fish, but it's happened once in the past 8 months). however, the thought of the diet is…

core exercise?
so, i've been placed on a diet by my endocrinologist (well, the dietician, actually) that is essentially a bit of a modified version of the protein sparing modified fast. while i am allowed to eat 150 g of carbs per day (not including veggies), i need to eat about 100 g of protein a day. i am also on a low dose of…

is it even possible?
i got diagnosed with insulin resistance today. basically, my body just isn't using insulin as effectively as it should, but it's NOT diabetes. my doctor is sending me to a dietician (meeting with her on 12/30) to try to put me on a high protein, low carb diet. this one, to be exact:…

hormones
ok. here's the scoop. it's taken me almost a year to lose around 35 lbs. i will be the first to admit that i did not eat properly every day nor exercise as much as i should, but i still get at LEAST 3 good workouts in a week (45 min to an hour), which includes strength and cardio. i am much more cognizant of the food put…

cold weather workout gear

activity level question
currently i am set to "lightly active" as i sit most of the day at a desk but do have the chance to get up and walk around often (and i do). however, i generally work out 4-5 days a week at a pretty intense level (as in i'm drenched in sweat when i leave). should i continue to be lightly active or do i up it? i have my…

food and flying internationally
i'm going to Cancun on Monday and i have tons of healthy snacks (almonds, protein bars, etc). i want to pack them so i'm not tempted by the donuts and other crap at the airport - can i get through customs with them just in case i have leftovers? i feel like i should be okay because it's not fresh stuff. i've never flown…

winter weather gear
any recommendations for what i should get for winter weather gear? i am guessing that i will most likely be working out in the gym, but i would like to stay outside for as long as possible/as long as it's safe and i don't get stuck in a snow pile. i'm primarily a walker, but every now and then i toss in a bit of jogging…

Mexico?
i'll be going to Mexico in a few weeks for my honeymoon (Cancun, to be exact). we are all inclusive at a few restaurants in the area, so i am wondering if you have any tips of foods to try that aren't going to kill my calories. also, how about fresh food intake? i've heard tons of "don't drink the water/eat fresh…
