I'll admit it bugs me too. I'm working as hard as I possible can and on the machine next to me is someone in street clothes not breaking a sweat - arrrggghhhh.

Sometimes trying to figure out why other people do what they do drives me crazier than the thing they were doing that drove me crazy in the first place. :noway:

    That's incredible!

I figure who cares, they are working out. I have enough to worry about in myself.

Aw, damn. I thought this was going to be another thread about women at gyms in slutty clothes.

    *leaves*

That is EXACTLY what I thought too. Thats no fun......

Really, who cares what people wear as long as they wear SOMETHING!

Probably the grossest gym uni that I have seen is a 70 year old man wearing old school short shorts and a wife beater shirt with his gray hairy man boobs flopping all around. I’m old and fat, but I at least cover it up!

In february I played poker all night and left the game at 6 am with just enough time to get to the gym. In my work clothes from the day before. Jeans, polo, and dress shoes. Chewing a whole pack of gum. Suboptimal, to say the least. But shouldn't really effect others at the gym. Well, at least not those out of the reach of my breath.

Heee, my sister does this when she visits. She "forgets" to pack gym clothes then refuses to wear capri pants ("they're foolish looking") or pastels ("No"), then ends up wearing jeans and business casual blouse to the gym.

It's kind of shocking seeing someone bust *kitten* in inappropriate clothing, but whatevs.

Now I'm one that normally tries not to worry much about what other people do as long as it doesn't affect me, but for some reason I find this really annoying and I don't know why.

You're a victim of the fitness fashion industry.

Does the guy wearing his Pajamas have to wear a $200 pair of nikes and and Abercrombie & Fitch shirt to make his workouts count?

The sandals at least I can say it's a safety issue so it's pretty dumb

How? It's not like a pair of runners is going to protect your feet from heavy weights falling on them. Neither would steel cap boots honestly. Or Impervious leather uppers. The guy could be barefoot and it wouldn't make a difference.

I'm pretty sure people have been physically exerting themselves for tens of thousands of years without the benefit of clothing, why do they need a certain type to exercise now?

Granted I'm not going to rock up to the gym in a 3 peice suit and some loafers. But I could.

I could show up there wearing a cape and a gasmask if I wanted I mean who decided there was a specific set of clothing you could wear to a gym and you could only wear that?

This type of logic is how they convince men to spend hundreds of dollars on spandex tights and actually wear them.

    Serious, I see a guy walking around in a pair of these it makes me facepalm;

How is pajama pants any worse?

One or more time it happened for me, if I go home to get gym wears, I will not be able to go to gym ( gym about to close).

Jeans and a polo, I can see if you only have a few minutes and want to get in a quicky. Sandals I can also see. Not a safety issue. Tennis shoes are not going to protect one's feet from a falling weight. I don't care what you wear as long as you're covered.

Maybe if what they are wearing is bothering you, you should work out harder! I really don't have the strength or energy to worry about anyone else but me!

I work out in my pj bottoms, a vest top and tennis shoes which must be at least 10 years old (hand-me-downs from a relative). I realise that I probably look scruffy or like I am not taking it seriously but I can't afford anything else right now and the only person that suffers is me! (them shoes dont help my legs when running!) x

I actually saw a guy on the stationary bike the other week in a winter coat. It was the hottest week of the year...

I've done running on a treadmill wearing old Army boots (my usual attire, especially when riding motorbikes which I was) as I'd forgotten my trainers that day.
It so happened that I also had a tatty pair of cut-off (not fashionable bought like that, actually cut because they were torn) cargo shorts.
Been indoor rock climbing in jeans and a t-shirt because that was what I was wearing when I decided I had time to stop in there.

The only time I ever saw it as a problem was with this one guy who would workout in the same clothes he wore all day long from his job. The body-odor permeated the gym-room so fast, there were a number of people who were either dry-heaving or some 'decorated' the floor - because this guy literally stunk so bad.

I learned later this professional plumber was escorted out and asked to please clean himself up before coming to the gym because the chemicals he works with as a plumber were considered toxic for people working out. He got so flipping mad about it but the numbnut didnt care that everyone around him was vomitting... now THAT is when it gets bad!!! LOL!!!!
