I've never done Insanity, personally, but I know that it's fairly common not to see much change on the scale the first month. All of the extra activity you're putting your body through can cause your body to flood sore muscles with water, to help cushion and repair them, which can look like a stall on the scale. In reality, it's usually just masking the fat loss that's still happening in the background.

Other than that, the usual factors include eating more than you realize (depending on how you're measuring and logging your food) and/or burning less than you realize (again, depending on whether you're using a HRM or internet estimates of your burn). Double-check those things and make sure your logging is as accurate as you can make it.

What she said. Make sure you are weighting everyhting and logging correctly, make sure the calories fit you needs and be wary of HRM over estimating burn
  • Thanks for replying. It does help. May be I am doing something wrong. Darn it. It's so hard to be very accurate with everything. I used to lose weight so easily. And now that i'm trying to make healthy changes i.e working out and eating back my calories.... I dont see any change. It's frustrating :(

It does take time. Didn't see changes until the 2nd month so be patient, keep tracking everything and hang in there. It is very frustrating to work so hard and not see anything! But you will. Otherwise, the program wouldn't be that popular, no? :)
  • I hope so. Fingers crossed for month 2.

Losing weight while lifting weights and doing things like insanity takes longer. The results are however worth it. Forget about the scale for a couple months and keep hitting it hard and logging your cals while weighing your food. It will work! It did not take you a couple months to get out of shape, it is not going to take a couple months to get in shape either.
  • You are so right. Thanks!

Honestly back when I did it, I didn't see many changes in weight, size or measurements. month two is the one that brought the changes tho for me! if you find you still aren't loosing maybe consider adding in some light cardio 1-3 days a week if possible.

HRMs only approach accurate calorie estimation for a limited number of steady state cardio activities. Anything that involves intervals will not be accurate because the device cannot tell the difference between the periods of elevated heart rate accompanied by increased exertion and the times when your heart rate remains elevated although your exertion level dropped.

This! I've done insanity and actually gained weight in the first few weeks. Probably not what you want to hear but give it some more time, you won't regret it:)

the water retention is killer when you are working your muscles so hard. I started working out not quite as hard and lost 4 lbs in a week-- so in reality, it was working, but my body was just holding onto water. Hang in there!

Use the beachbody calculator and choose Insanity / "loose some weight"...put in your specs and see what you get for calories (you eat only that amount - don't eat back any calories over that === when you get the number they show you)

Honestly, I had the best results when I was doing a combination of Insanity with alternating days of P90X. Insanity provided a great cardio burn and then I was doing resistance with P90X. I was careful to watch carbs (e.g. Goldfish crackers) and really had my best definition. I'd say to keep at it and you will get results.
  • Thank you so much guys for the insight. Much appreciated. I do confess that I am feeling so down today that I'm at the verge of quitting. But easier said than done.... :'(

I actually had the same results as you. It is quite frustrating. I never lose weight when doing Insanity; however, I do lose inches and tone up. I didn't lose any weight, but I looked as if I had. You have to make up your mind whether you want to tone as you lose or weight until you are done. What I do is do Insanity for a month, and do cardio the next month. That way I can see some progress on the scale because that matters to me.
