Creating a workout regimen

So I've been eating a lot better in the last month and I've seen a tremendous improvement. I want to start working out again but I'm not sure where to start. Before college I played sports in high school and that's what kept me in shape. Now it's kind of hard to do that because obviously I'm no varsity athlete at my D1 school and club teams require too much of a time commitment for my crazy schedule.

Currently I think I want to workout in the gym at least 5 days per week. How many of those days would you suggest be just cardio and how many days of those should I include weight training? When it comes to weight training should I just go for full body workouts or train upper body/lower body/core on separate days? I'm really open to any suggestions anyone might have. I'm just trying to come up with something that will help me achieve better results.

Thanks so much for all of your help!

A lot of us have had good results with 3 day a week full body routines. Stronglifts 5x5 and Starting Strength are good examples that you could look into. I wouldn't worry about doing split workouts until you have exhausted gains from a beginner full-body routine.

If you're interested I can forward you the training regimen I made for beginners. Full body workout, 3 times per week.

Back in the day I made huge gains with full body 3 times a week. I lifted heavy doing 3 sets of 6 for every body part. Now I do one body part a day but would like to go back and do full body....
