First post in a while, overeating, night bingeing

I'm here again trying to connect with others plagued by night snacking, bingeing and eating when not hungry. I go through lapses and right now it's one of them. I eat healthy but overeat.
I'm trying to find motivation to start running again and I'll sign up for a group class to get my butt in gear. I've gained about 20 lbs this past year and I can't believe it! I'm fitter than ever but I gotta get rid of body fat.
I'm not making excuses but I work a lot in an office so I gotta push myself to work out sometimes I'm tired so I don't. That's gotta stop!
I'm aiming to run a half marathon next spring that way I have all winter to train.
I'm here daily and motivation is always at top of my agenda. Feel free to add me let's help each other !

Binging is an issue for me too. For a while I thought I overcame it.... (back when I was living with a boyfriend at the time, I never felt the need I suppose because all my emotional needs were satisfied) but now that I'm not with him, it's back.... clearly it's an emotional eating problem. Tends to happen when I'm bored or anxious. It's comforting and I seriously LOVE food. My suggestion is find out why you do it. Before you feel it coming on, figure out exactly what emotions you're feeling. Then, find ways to fix those emotions without food. Feeling stressed? Solve the issue of what's making you stressed (for example, if I'm stressed about tests coming up, the best way to manage that is to just study! Not eat). If you're bored, find a fun activity to do.. and you get the picture. Exercising also helps a lot as I'm sure you know. Anyway, be positive, forgive yourself, and keep moving forward... you can do it0

it is an issue for me too. i finally realized it isnt that i am a pig at night, it is that i want to do it and like it. so i save 200 calories every day so i can use em at night. or more if i can. if i end up wanting more than i saved i ask myself why... what am i really feeling? more often than not its that i am tired and seeking energy. and so i go to bed. sleeping well helps. not that i do that but it helps when i do.0

If you're not hungry, then divert yourself, because it sounds like you have the aware part down. Alternately, save some calories for the evening.0

First and foremost, you can eat at night if you want. I was really bothered by my night eating then I started to treat it just like any other meal/snack and make the calories fit. Meal timing has no effect on weight loss, and there's no shame in getting up at night to eat
Once you accept this it can be easier to come up with lower calorie foods and treats that'll satisfy your night time craving0 -

Depending on the types of food you snack on, can you be healthier about your snack choice? Can you save a healthy snack drawer for night time eating? Just throwing a couple ideas out there.0

I've read numerous times that eating right and enough all day will help divert wanting to snack at night. I still find myself wanting snacks at night too. Last night for example... I knew I was over my calories for the day (damn Starbucks pumpkin lattes!) and still gave in and had a fiber one 90 calorie brownie. So, I guess if you're going to snack, snack on something that isn't terrible for you. I'm just getting back into the swing of things with the proper diet/exercise and it's hard to not want to binge eat at nite while watching tv. Drinking a warm drink seems to help though, or what used to work for me was making one of those 100 calorie bags of popcorn. Lots to eat there for little calories and has the fiber too to keep you feeling full.0
