A Hard Core Love of Aerobics

I think it finally happened. I think I found a type of exercise that I actually look forward to. Wait for it... AEROBICS! I know what you're thinking. Leg warmers and big hair with head bands, and while you're partially right depending on the aerobic workout of choice, aerobics offers an awesome total body workout. I was an avid runner for years and, as we all know, that not only took a small toll on my body, but I found that I was forcing myself to do it rather than really enjoying it. I could also often be found spending hours on the machines in the gym, not really enjoying it, but feeling like I had to be there every day (not to mention I'm pretty sure it was starting to make me bulky which AIN'T the look I'm going for!). So here I was visiting my parents one day and noticed that they were cleaning out the garage and, lo and behold. There she sat - Jane Fonda's Step Aerobic! Now I like to think Jane and I are old fitness friends. I used to do her 'New Workout' with my mom when I was little. So that got me thinking. What if I bring aerobics back (if they ever, in fact, went away). So I brought out the stepper, found the VHS tape and got to work. What's strange is how much of the music and routine I still remembered. Anywho, you know I had to dig out the rest of the old Jane Fonda VHS tapes at my parents’ house. Let's just say, I'm now an aerobics fiend! High-impact, low-impact, stepping, dancing, you name it. Oh and I also like to throw some yoga and pilates in there. My flexibility is pretty much non-existent, so I'm trying to work on that. Combined with a decently improved meal plan (I say decent, because I’m no saint when it comes to indulging), I noticed a difference in my physique right away. My waist whittled down and I can see my legs starting to look lean (they tend to be very muscular from the running and weight training). But the best part? I. Have. Fun. Who knew??

So I’ve been rotating between reliable Jane Fonda and various YouTube aerobic videos, but really want to keep mixing it up. Does anybody else out there enjoy aerobics as much as I do? If so, any recommendations for aerobic routines/exercise videos?

I grew up in the 80s....had the leg warmers, too! And I still like aerobics! I've heard people say it's silly...but take a good look at today's Zumba.....hahahaha.....
Have fun!0 -
I have always loved group classes and aerobics is no exception. I love Jazzercise and step classes. Gin Miller, Cher and Kari Anderson were some of my favorite videos. I wish 24 had more step classes like they used to.0

Jazzercise! You can even try a class for free until Sunday. It's kinda like Zumba in a way, but more cueing & safety tips so you know what to do & weights at the end of class so you get the toning too. Check the website & see if there's a class near you.
Sadly...I wish we still had step in Jazzercise. Not enough people wanted to take it or teach it. I loved teaching back to back classes, one regular & one step.0
