Is skimmed milk a 'clean' food?

I understand it's not paleo but is it considered clean? Trying to limit processed foods. If it's not considered clean, is it lightly processed or the devil?

    During my brief attempt to eat a "clean" diet, milk was not on the "clean" list.

    It all depends on your definition of what a "clean" diet means.

    For whether or not milk is the devil, I'm going to go with no, but there are a lot of people who could make a strong case for yes.

    Lots of perfectly healthy, non-evil foods are technically processed.

    I'm going to be following this thread to see if any of them show up. It's been so quiet in the new forums. :wink:

    What is "lightly processed?" its either processed or its not.

    I was surprised how many calories were in a glass of skimmed milk, I used to drink it thinking it was a healthy alternative when I got bored of water but have since cut it out entirely, now I just drink 2 litres of water a day which does get a little boring but it's better than being obese.

    I actually prefer whole milk to skim due to less processing, so that's what I drink. Like everything else there are pros and cons. Here is a non-scientific article: http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2012/03/29/why-skim-milk-isnt-necessarily-better/

    The science has shown I think pretty clearly that switching to skim from whole hasn't resulted in weight loss.

    For me, it certainly would be. When I was eating at my cleanest, I was doing Joel Fuhrman's Eat to Live, and after the initial stage, some nonfat dairy is allowed. So, I figure if he allows it, with how strict he is, I'll consider it clean. And Dr. Agatston allows it on South Beach, and he is strict, too. I have nonfat milk, nonfat yogurt, nonfat sour cream and reduced-fat cheese. I don't generally have nonfat products other than dairy.

    PS, I lost 126 lbs eating that way (until my bout of injuries), so I definitely lost weight that way.

    It's only clean if you're drinking it straight from the teet.

    What is skimmed milk? It's basically milk that has been allowed to sit for a few hours, then cream is skimmed off the top. Alternatively, it's passed through a centrifuge to make the process quicker by spinning the milk fast so the fat floats to the top and the milk is pumped from the bottom.

    In both cases, no real processing takes place. Think of it as extracting oil out of olives. Separating two different parts of an item.

    So, skim milk is clean in theory unless you subscribe to the school of thought that believes milk is unclean all together.

    Everyone who eats "clean" has a different definition. Worry less about "clean" and more about healthy. :)

    And this thread is why I no longer eat clean. When I DID eat clean, I even questioned if yogurt was considered clean, or rice cakes. RICE CAKES.

    Purity of your food has nothing to do with weight loss, so eat what you enjoy and just eat less than you need for maintenance. From a weight loss POV, you can eat jelly donuts every day and lose weight, it doesnt' matter. As long as you are below your maintenance you will lose weight, and I've been losing weight eating a balanced diet of fresh foods and freshly opened boxes of brownies and donuts. Eating Chicago mix popcorn and a big bowl of frozen fruit right now :)
