Was doing fine till 40 hit!

Desperate times... :)

Hi, all! I just joined because what I've been doing for the past 7 yrs or so is no longer working. At 34 I finally stopped making excuses and got myself a trainer, a heart rate monitor, and new eating habits. Dropped 2 sizes down to a 10 (5'10"), and haven't looked back since. Well, not since a year and a half ago, when I turned 40. Up till then, my happy range was between 137 and 145 (that 137 was brutal to maintain, and short lived). Today I find myself at 154.8. Unacceptable.

Last November, at 40, I underwent open heart surgery to repair 2 leaky valves. The moment I got medical clearance in February, I was back at my beloved Zumba classes (2-3 during the school year, and almost daily in the summer). I used to take strength training classes like TRX, but stopped the August when they discovered the leaky valves. Now I've been trying yoga for the past month. I also enjoy recreational activities such as: skiing, kayaking, and whitewater rafting.

My goal is to get back to 145 in the next 4 months, in time for my 42nd bday, and be comfortable in my skin once again. It sure was a crazy 40th year!

40 was my tipping point too. 8 years later, I'm doing something about it.

Glad you are keeping tabs on the valves... Obviously critical.

    Good luck in your journey!

Feel free to add me as a "friend" if you do desire.

    Welcome! We're glad you're here.

The good news is that strength training kinda works against weight loss, but the Zumba, Yoga, skiing, kayaking, and whitewater rafting sure sound like fun and part of an active lifestyle!

This is your third time in about 10 years -- so consider whether you should do this for the next 4 months -- or maybe for the rest of your life? If you do this for 4 months, you'll be back a 4th and 5th time. The "this" is a lifestyle of conscience and careful eating great foods in reasonable amounts. Think very long term. When you hit 145 in 4 months, you'll still need to eat well, log well, and exercise to maintain that weight loss. So make today like tomorrow and make tomorrow like today -- ease yourself into your forever lifestyle and carry these habits over. This isn't 10 lbs in 4 months, this is about being 145 forever.

    You can do it!
  • hi there I am quite new to all of this, my tipping point was when my mum died in April, aged 64 from multiple Brain tumors, her zest for life was and still is inspiring. It took me a while to realize that it is down to me to do something about it in a positive way and regain my zest for life. I want to lose weight for myself, my mum and my children. every time i am out on a power walk, i look out for purple wild flowers, that's my mum pushing me forward.
