changing calorie goals depending on activity

i have a read a few posts about changing the amount of calories ingested on particular days depending on the amount of activity one does. ex: if someone works-out at the gym, that day, they will eat 500 more calories than the following day when they do not go to the gym.

i would love to hear some real-life examples of how people lose weight by using this method. does it have a name? i am an intermittent faster (i follow 18:6 every day) but was curious about altering my calorie intake as well. i go to the gym monday, tuesday, wednesday, and thursday every week.

TFS :)

no, that's not what i meant. maybe i didn't explain myself well enough.
i have heard of people who actually intentionally eat far more calories on days they work-out and then eat far fewer calories on days they do not. i'm not talking about eating back exercise calories.

I'll sometimes do a pre-workout shake good for about 200 cals before an intense workout simply to fuel the effort. Mostly, though I use TDEE based off of weekly activity levels. MFP is too generic to be of much use for my taste.
