Please dont mentuin clean or you will be sorry.
Why not just follow the MFP method and eat at a deficit and learn habits that will last you a lifetime?0 -
oh boy, time to christen the forums with a clean eating thread.0

Oh dear not intending to stress anyone out its just what I have chosen to follow to learn healthy eating/cooking as I've got a little one now and want to also offer her the best diet. There seems to be a lot of interesting meals on the plan that I'm looking forward to trying.
I was just looking for a bit of support and tips as that's what I thought this place was for. Never mind...

I am new to Myfitnesspal, but I think the point of the tracking is so you see clearly what calories you've eaten, and how much remains. I saw an article about a scientist who lost weight eating. "Twinkie diet", his point was that it all comes down to counting your calories. This convinced me to try tracking, plain and simple.
I am not familiar with the diet you mention, but looked it up. The principles sound good, such as whole foods, not processed. If the menus or recipes inspire you, go for it. But you need to count those calories. The options look super low to me, so be careful you're getting enough of what you need.
I think people on the MFP method seem skeptical of fad diets because they don't involve tracking. Again, totally new here! Just what I'm learning.
Good luck and enjoy the healthy eating!0 -

14 day diets aren't going to make much of an impact in 14 weeks or 14 months time let alone 14 years!
BTW - it's lovely you are thinking of your daughter too, now that's long term thinking!

Agree with all of the above, it's unnecessary, just track what you're eating, set a sensible calorie deficit and you will lose weight. Quick fixes are not sustainable.0

I never understand why people want pre-planned menus or recipes. Presumably you know what a healthy diet involves if you want to eat healthy and if not it's important to learn enough to construct it yourself, as it's not sensible to follow some meal plan forever and you need to understand the principles to know if it's any good. Beyond that, it's about calories and people vary on the number of calories that make sense, which is probably why so many of these plans err toward the very low side and cut out lots of foods. If the idea (a good one) is to learn to eat healthy for your child, not sure how a diet plan would be the best way.
Also, while lots of people start out with extra motivation, weight loss does not need to be kickstarted.
To me these plans suggest that many want to turn something that is biologically simple into a magical formula that won't work unless all sorts of unnecessary conditions are met.0 -
Harriett - I started eating 'clean' a week ago and it has been fantastic, never hungry and some health problems that I had have disappeared. I have cut all grains and dairy in a hope of finding which is causing the problem. After a month i'll probably put either grains or dairy back in and see if the health problem reappears, then I'll know if that was the cause. I might end up putting them both back in and finding that it was the actual weight that was causing the problem and not either grains or dairy.
I recognize that eating clean means different things to different people. My version of clean eating is basically fruits, vegetables, eggs, nuts and meats. No dairy, processed foods, sugary food, grains or odd replacements that enable the creation of food I used to eat, I don't want to eat a healthier version of what I used to eat, I want to eat differently!
If you want to eat clean, first choose what you believe is clean. Then eat those foods within your MFP calorie intake and you will succeed. Some have no problems with grains or dairy, I don't either but if the removal of one removes a health problem then my body obviously does.
It think its commendable that you are trying to offer your child the best and more whole foods are the way to accomplish that, there are studies everywhere that say 'bread is bad' or 'bread is good'.. replace bread with anything the real question is how does it affect you?
Good luck!0 -
thank you for your kind replies! I do intend to track what I eat on mfp too! The kickstart is essentially a guideline you can use any of the meals that you want and its not compulsoryi just thought it was an easy way to introduce new meals into our home. I've always been nervous to incorporate things such as quinoa etc so the meal plans sound good and it's a new insight for me into the food for fuel concept! I've also been swimming and doing some jillian michaels home DVDs. Any further suggestions are welcome Id like to ideally lose a stone and overall improve our diets!
Question, am I supposed to eat back excercise calories? I'm only 5'4 and weigh 139 so I'm aiming for 1150 calories per day...0 -

Harriett - Don't go below 1200 calories a day, this is usually the recognized minimum someone will need to obtain all the vitamins and minerals needed each day. If your exercising then eat back at last half of the calories you burn, can eat back them all if you choose but then you have to be extra sure that the calories burned are calculated correctly.0

Thanks so much Matthew that's exactly what I would like to do fresh foods and grains etc! Over the years have become lazy and can often turn to convenience foods which I know make me feel tired and generally grim.
The plan isn't a fad diet as such just a set of easy recipes to introduce whole foods wtc and learn how to prepare healthy meals it's not strict by any means!0 -
i have always used the create a negative energy balance and eat whatever I want, which has worked with me. clean eating has noting to do with weight loss…..

If it gets you to eat more whole food it can't be a bad thing, it'll help move you in that direction and then you'll be able to do it under your own steam. All you need to do calorie wise is eat the MFP recommended calorie intake.0

you need to net, at the bare minimum, 1200 calories a day …so if you burn 100 through exercise then you should eat 1300 calories minus 100 burned = 1200 net …..that is, if you are following MFP method….\
FYI - ALL food is fuel..not just certain kinds...0 -

1150 calories is a really silly level.
And it comes back to the unreasonable expectation of fast weight loss highlighted by choosing 14 day weight loss plans. Classic signs of a yoyo dieter.
Please don't.

Thanks all. I'm aiming for 1-2 lbs loss per week. Will aim for 1200 as suggested and eat back excercise calories.0

Ps please don't think I'm in a yo yo diet I'm just trying to improve the quality of the food we eat at home0
