I am 22 years old, 5'5 and 14 stone 13 pounds...My MFP is set to lose 1 pound per week, it allows me to eat 1,600 calories per day.. I thought this was a bit excessive but maybe that's because I was only eating 1,200 cals a day. Feel like everyday is a feast now lol
My activity is set to sedentary. Will I still lose weight?

Because you are a larger person, you probably could easily lose at 1600, but not quickly, maybe 1 lbs. to .5 a lb. a week. At 1200, you'd lose 1.5 to 2 lbs. a week, but many people feel too deprived at that low level and can't stick to their eating plan.0

Everyone is different, the only way to find out is to try it for a week. I'm set to lose 2 pounds a week at sedentary but I've lost 19 pounds in 12 days eating the MFP recommended calorie intake for my weight and height.0

If your TDEE is greater than 1600 cals then you will lose weight eating at that level, as long as you are logging accurately.
Most people apart from maybe the very short/light will have a TDEE greater than 1600.0 -
When I first started I could eat 1600 and lose as well and I was a bit lighter but a bit taller...and as I have lost weight, increased my exercise it went up to 2150....and that trend continued...I lost more weight continued my exercise (maybe even an increase in my walking) and it's up to 2250....and I maintain on that...lose on 2k
So yes you will lose weight on 1600 and if you start exercising you will see that number go up.0 -
You will lose weight if you eat less than your tdee!!!
1200 calories is not enough, god I would be starving. Try with 1600 calories and see how you get on.
You do know the more you exercise, the more you can eat? I exercise to eat more calories.
So if you want say an ice cream, pizza, mc d's etc - work out your calories so you can have these things. Have what ever you want.... 'IN YOUR CALORIES'0 -
yes you will lose...i am 22 too...5,8 and 9.9 stones...
I am taking in 1400 a day and losing
or I will take in 1500 a day ( feast feeling) and do 1 36hr fast a week
I have practiced Intermittent fasting for years always helps out too...
but even if you do 1200 mon, 1400 tues, 1700 wed.. 1000 thurs... but reach the same deficit number for the week it works too... calorie cycling or zigzagging its called..

Most likely you will. I am 5'6" and 50 yo and I would lose weight on 1600 calories per day. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem like a feast to me.0

I've lost 80 pounds and I've never eaten under 1600 calories. I'm 5'5" and 36.0

If you're eating 400 calories more per day (1600 vs. 1200), you will lose about 3.5 lbs. LESS per month (400x30/3500). Though if eating the higher level reverses some metabolic adaptation to lower calories, you could raise your TDEE and the losses won't slow as much as that math suggests.
And if you're happier overall at 1600, you might find it a lot easier to stick to for the time it takes to finish losing.
But if you hate tracking and don't do it well, you might wind up spinning your wheels at 1600 because you could be inadvertently eating at maintenance (due to under-estimating intake), which can be demoralizing and can make people quit.
It's an individual choice, that's for sure. Some people would rather go slow and steady, some need to see that scale move every week and have an end in sight, not in 2016.

So I went ahead and changed my daily calorie intake from 1,200 to 1,595 (got this number by using the TDEE method), it's been one week from doing so and I can feel such a positive diffrence in my body! I now feel I have lots more energy, I am working out more and just generally feeling better.. Plus I lost 2lbs0

I agree with everything you all said above, thanks for all the advice!
I do believe that some people CAN however eat 1,200 and feel great but for me it was never going to work.. Everyone is diffrent and we all have diffrent needs.0 -
Awesome update, Cherry!0
