Can you get addicted to water?

I never used to drink water or drank it rarely until a few months ago when I cut my caffeine down to one cup a day. Then I only had a few glasses. Since I have started limiting caffeine even further and am now adding a lot more exercise, it seems I am always thirsty. I drink over 10 cups of water a day and when I wake up I am thirsty. Is this normal when starting a new exercise or should I be worried?

Are you sure it only started when you added a lot more exercise? I don't want you to be worried and I get annoyed with people who say "talk to your doctor" for everything, but my Father did have some issues with that and it ended up being serious, I don't want to go into detail because I don't like freaking people out. Just do a little google research on your own and see if you have any other things going on. Let us know what you find!

Speaking generally, it's not unusual that new exercise program would impact one's hydration needs. Not that a direct comparison matters, but I drink well over 100oz of liquids/day. Drink when you're thirsty. Replenish fluids after exercise. Whether or not the thirst is an indicator of another underlying medical problem isn't something anyone here is going to be able to answer. It seems unlikely to me, but what do I know?

You just need to stop drinking so much water. By drinking excessive amounts, you will feel the sensation of thirst without actually needing water. So just take into account roughly how much you are drinking. You dont need more than 2 litres per day. After a while, this will just stop.

If you've changed up your diet and exercise plan, then yes I think it's normal.

    I wouldn't say you're addicted, you're just responding to your body's needs.

I generally drink about 3 litres of water a day and up to 5 litres if I'm at the gym that day.

Thanks, I looked it up online, from what I found it is common when increasing exercise and the ones that seemed to be serious appeared to drink a lot more water than I do or drank it in a short period of time. I drink it throughout the day. But I will bring it up with my doctor my next appointment.

3-4 liters is about what I have drank the last few days.

I generally drink a lot of water when I am working at my desk and I have noticed that sometimes the more I drink, the more dry/thirsty my mouth feels. I know I do not need the water to stay hydrated so I just ignore the sensation sometimes if I do not want to drink more water and it goes away after a while.

the more water I drink, the more water I want. I just do what my body wants.
