What I have accomplised in 365 days on MFP

Hi, I’m Ben, 31, from Montreal, Canada.
In August 2013, I made a life-changing decision. This is how I looked like back then.

So, I chose fitness over laziness. I’m celebrating today my 365th straight days of logging so I thought it would be a great opportunity to look on what I have accomplished. But first, let’s have a look back.
I was never much of a cardio guy, but I was always fit in my 20 first years. I ate crap, but I was thin, and I could run without problem. I’m a soccer player, but I was a goalkeeper for most of my life. Here’s the picture that triggered a reaction in me, taken in June 2013.

I was not obese, just a little overweight. In fact, on that picture, I look alright. But not ok according to myself. I was 175 lb, at 5’8. That’s not me. I finished my soccer season, and started running and logging my food in the meantime. By Christmas 2013, I had lost a good 20 lb. But that wasn’t it. I wanted more. Thanks to my former workplace, I had access to an on-site gym where I started lifting, as in, gaining mass. I went through a mass gaining phase from January until April.

Then I resumed running. I ended up running two half-marathon events, including Montreal’s, with 16,000 people. Amazing experience. It’s definitely something I want to do again in 2015. This is me on my bib collection day.

So, what’s next, two weeks after such a grand event? I’m back into a mass gain phase. That means calorie surplus, 5-6 sessions in the gym per week. Less cardio. But still a lot of soccer. I just can’t help it. I’m playing forward now, aiming for top scorer again.

So last year wasn’t always an easy one, but I persevered. I basically learned how to eat properly and how to portion my own food. I learned all the basic principles of nutrition with exercise/fitness. Also, just when I was doing great with routine eating, I lost my job and became freelancer (I’m a translator) so I had to modify my habits for the good.
I’m glad for MFP because this is where I met several awesome people, some of whom have a long way into fitness. This kept my motivation over the roof for the whole year. Congrat to all! I plan on being even awesomer 365 days from now!
In order to do so, my routine is, 5 days of gym, two nights of soccer, two-three nights of running, and week-end off. That’s until March-April. Then back into cutting mode, and cardio focus.
