Eating strength training cals back??

Hi,

When doing cardio exercises, you eat your cals back. But what about when I do strength training? And how do you calculate how much cals you burn with strength training?

Thanks in advance!!

You can get a rough idea of the calorie burn from the MFP exercise database. There's a listing for strength training in the cardio exercise section. It's not much though.

I usually make strength training extra exercise and don't eat it back. The great thing about it, though, is that it increases calorie burning even after you stop exercising.

I wouldn't trust what it says in the MFP database, either, because "strength training" is so broad. You can do 30 minutes of repping 5 pound bicep curls or 30 minutes of intense powerlifting. Obviously the calorie burn is very different between the two.

Yeh the MFP excercise logging screen is messed up.

The one on the top is labeled Cardiovascular, but it actually has presets for basically all types of physical exertion. Run a search for an applicable keyword and enter the amount of time you did it for to get credits for calories. Theres one for Strength Training that's worth about 300 calories an hour. Also slightly different ones for various intensities of calithenics and such.

You can use the Strength Training section below to keep a log of specific exercises, but it doesn't give calorie credit on it's own. If you use that section you still have to put in the overall time spent above.

I'd suggest Fitocracy for exercise logging though, it's a great app and community.
