Nuts & Seeds

Hi everyone,

I've reached my limit with bad foods and want to make changes.

One of them is introducing nuts and seeds into my diet, which nuts and seeds are the best to eat and how much should I be eating?
Thanks

Portion sizes can be surprisingly small so measure and weigh when you start. Both nuts and seeds are nutritional powerhouses with lots of minerals you don't find as abundantly elsewhere. I try to fit in 3 -5 Brazil nuts a day for the selenium. I currently have pecans and pumpkin seeds in my pantry but this varies by season and mood.

I put seeds in my smoothie every day.

I use 1 tsp of each of the following in my smoothie:

    Chia seeds
    Sesame seeds
    Hemp (is hemp a seed?)

I use only half a tsp of flax because its fat gives me heartburn.

I eat 2 Brazil nuts a day which support thyroid health. I also eat peanut butter every day, generally a natural brand, drizzled over my banana; I guess about 2 T.

Different nuts and seeds have different mixes of nutrients. All of them are somewhat calorie dense so do weigh them.

A great nut trick is to make a pesto of something leafy green like parsley or cilantro, whatever nut you choose, and mono- & polyunsaturated oils. Add a bit of parmesan or other grated cheese to "gild the lily." The other night we had a flat-leaf parsley & almond pesto on chicken, veggies, and pasta that was to die for.

    Hemp hearts/seeds are amazing!
In just 3 Tbsps there are 10 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber, 2.5 grams of omega-3,
8 grams of omega-6 and packed with vitamins and minerals.
