do hotel gyms usually have scales?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I don't usually go in hotel gyms.
I am going on a trip soon and while some hotels do have scales in them I am not sure the one I am staying at this time will have one.
Might there be one in the gym? I know I can just skip weigh-ins but I'll be gone long enough and eyeballing all my food so I'd like to have something to try to help keep things to maybe only gaining 5 lbs instead of 10. I want to indulge and enjoy but not as if it's the last time I'll even be on vacation again.

how long are you going to be gone for??
I mean I can eat over for a week by a little bit and still be on point and weigh in at the same amount- I wouldn't really over think it- just make smart choices- and work out when you can and don't go ham every single time you hit the buffet.0 -

yeah I thought about that but I figured if I weighed when I first got there I will go against what that particular scale says. I'm more looking for the change rather than the actual number.
It'll be for more than 2 weeks last time I went completely with abandon and only gained I think like maybe 8 lbs so it wasn't that bad at all for probably getting in at least 3-5k calories a day the whole time but I'm going to try to dial it back at least a little this go around
Felt like the scale thing was mostly just another little reminder I don't need to eat and drink everything. Trying to change it up a bit.

If you're on vacation then don't worry about it, deal with it when you get back from vacation. I'm sure you know the difference between indulging and bingeing, huge difference. Don't worry about the damn scale, enjoy your family or whoever you're going with, and enjoy what you're doing.0 -

Usually scales are pretty consistent. They don’t have to be accurate with your scale at home, but if you weigh yourself on the same scale at a hotel, and you do it again the next day at the same time, you should get a pretty accurate reading of how much you have gained or lost. I find the scale at my gym are one pound less than my scale at home but both are consistent relative to each other.0

Depends, is the scale consistent?
I've seen scales that were inconsistent between weighings after calibration. I've seen scales that were consistent for weight a few times then completely out of whack. both digital and analog.
So I'd take it with a grain of salt. I've not found many accurate hotel scales.0 -
Thanks all! I got curious and was looking at some calorie values for things I know I ate/drank last time and uh, let's just say my 3-5k estimate was likely.. conservative at best LOL!!!
I'm not worried about it or stressed or anything, just excited! But it's a trip full of unlimited free drink and food of pretty much any kind I can imagine constantly available. I am a horribly unpicky eater and deciding from all those options is usually very difficult and I eat until I don't feel comfortable because I don't want to miss out on tasting everything.
And don't even get me started on the debacle that is unlimited free drinks of trying everything I can possibly think of and most I can't just random things suggested by the bartender.
You guys helped me realize though another good idea while I was thinking about this, which is to familiarize myself with the various options before I get there. Then it'll at least make it easier to pick things which will make it more fun for me. If I like to eat everything I might as well pick the thing lowest in calories.
It was more just an idea to help change the habit of always ordering the cheesesteak. There will be too many other options for that to make sense.
My dad eats a lot so the trip largely consists of him and me deciding where we are going to eat next so that's why the food is important, it IS a big part of what I'll be doing.
I'm just excited this is my first trip since I've been practicing moderation and not being too extremely restrictive in my choices and it's had such remarkable results at home I'm really looking forward to how it translates. I'm hoping it translates into me continuing to eat until full but not uncomfortably beyond, because that has been the natural side effect here at home and it's been wonderful.0 -
I hope i didn't come across as being harsh as that wasn't my intent. You're going on vacation, so please enjoy it. I'm sure you know the difference between bingeing and indulging so you can easily minimize any damage. I'm sure you don't get to do it often so enjoy the time away from your day-to-day and enjoy the people you're with. You can only do so much damage in a week or two anyway.0

Oh thank you! You didn't sound harsh I just probably sound more worried than I am. I do travel in this way (where food/drink is unlimited in an endless amount of yummy variety, constantly present and free) probably at least about 4 weeks out of the year and then there is more "vacation" on top of that so you are absolutely correct, I can't do too much damage but trying to find a little better plan than last time partially cause of the frequency.
The scale was just an idea to help me pick the better choices (which there are tons, LOTS of extremely yummy vegetable options that I like as much as the fattier ones, but for reasons I won't go into as they are OT my habit has been to pick the most caloric dense thing I would find.)
But thank you if I think of my idea about the scale I am going to also think about the indulging vs. binging advice and that will help too. Just trying to be more "present" with my eating.0 -
