Can too much fiber be bad?

I've been topping out at about 35-50 g of fiber the past week, well above the recommended 25 g for women. Also been guzzling sickening amounts of water. I feel like I have to 'go' a lot more, and am very bloated and gassy. Granted, my diet consisted of very little fiber/water before I made this diet change. Will my body adjust? Can too much fiber be a bad thing?

Yup. Too much anything is a bad thing. Drop it down if you can.

Too much fiber is never my problem. Good for you!

That's a big change all at once. And 50 might be a bit high for most people. If that's your goal, you might need to build up to it gradually.

    Personally, I'm comfortable between 30 and 40.

Yep, gotta "work" your way up, if you can. I was similar to you, OP. Maybe 15-20g fiber on a GOOD day (whoops!). Gradually increased my fiber. Now I can do 35+ no problem. Take it slow, make sure you're getting enough water (sounds like you are, GREAT!), and also enough fats, too (TMI--fiber "bulks", fat helps you "move" your bowels easier).

    Fiber makes you regular.
Fiber also clears out a room and can possibly make you lose friends.
Gotta find a happy medium with it. :)

Well, I think the bloating/gas will stop eventually, haha. But I read somewhere that too much fiber can hinder absorption of nutrients? With the foods that I am eating now, I could probably hit 50 g of fiber a day or more, and I guess I was just wondering if this could have any negative effects like that?
