I tend to have a more stable mood when I eat healthily but don't deprive myself.0

Going to the gym or getting some exercise helps reduce stress and burn calories at the same time! I had to train myself to turn to the gym when I felt sad, lonely, bored, depressed...etc...and even force myself in the beginning, rather than eat for comfort. It really works. Even if you go in , not feeling motivated, you always feel better after! Even if you just get on the machine for 15-20 minutes, it makes a difference! Even just taking a walk outside helps to clear your mind. Perhaps try a yoga class or meditation to control your emotional eating or write down your thoughts on why you want to eat right now, and figure out if it's really because you are hungry or if it is because of an emotional issue you are having. Writing really helped me too in the beginning. You can do it! Stay positive!0

Let your feelings out and not keep them in with food to medicate.0

You could try mindfulness exercises to reduce the frequency of uncontrolled emotions. Or you could find another way to calm yourself, one that doesn't involve food. It could be going to the gym as nm212 suggests, or a good scream, a Dammit Doll, meditation, a walk or run, a cup of tea or herbal tea without sweetener—basically, anything that you find calming besides eating.
A combination of the two is probably best: being mindful of your thoughts and reactions to try to fend off being in an overly emotional state, and a few non-food coping techniques for when the emotions hit.
Good luck!0 -
I increased my protein to 50% of total calories, so I don't ever feel that urge to eat. In fact, it is all I can do to keep my calories high enough.0
