Factoring in exercise to MFP calculations

Hi
I've been using MFP just for tracking my calorie intake.
But I've noticed that the calorie target it gives me for putting on X amount of weight a week isn't really accurate unless it factors in calories burnt while weight lifting.
I've tried to add things such as Bench Press etc but it doesn't seem to factor that in, it still says 0 exercise on the MFP home page.
Am I doing something wrong or missing something?
A workaround might be for me to estimate by own calorie usage during exercise, and then just add that in (similar to the way you can add a certain number of cals to your food diary), but I can't see a way to do this.

To create your own exercise and define its own parameters, from the home screen click the "exercise" tab and then choose "my exercises" followed by the "create exercise" button.
If adding other template exercises isn't working for you then making your own personalised set of exercises sounds like a safe bet.0 -
i would simply go for a certain amount of calories and see how your body reacts and ignore the excercise calories on my fitness pal.
For example use the iifym calculator to figure out a starting point. try this caloric intake.
do you gain/lose weight? if not change the calories accordingly. Also: stick to a routine. if you know your maintenance on training 6 days a week, don't expect it to be the same on 3 days a week.0 -
In the cardio exercise option there is a item for Strength Training which gives you a calories burnt calculation. Of course, how much someone actually burns depends entirely on what their doing strength-wise, but I've found that if you're honest about how much time you actually work out for then its correct, there or thereabouts.0
