Website Nutritional Guides

I went out to dinner last night at a chain restaurant (Milestones) here in Ottawa (Canada) and I checked the website for calorie count on the dish I like before I went. I was shocked at the number of calories they listed for their Grilled Chicken Salad without dressing (520). The salad consists of shaved chicken, greens, cilantro and red tortilla chip strips (maybe a 1/4 cup of them). I checked the calorie count on the dressing and it was coming in at 520 calories as well, so I called the restaurant and the chef told me that there was no way that was accurate. However, my response email from the head office stated 1040 calories for the dressed salad and of course, I got the same info from the waiter who was looking at the chart in the kitchen. Does anyone know if this is even remotely accurate (never mind possible)? 1040 for a dressed salad????

Restaurant salads are notorious for being ridiculously high in calories. Other than the dressing and tortilla chips that one doesn't seem to have anything too bad - but maybe the grilled chicken has some hidden calories - cooked in oil, a high calorie marinade or something??? I'd trust the 1040 if that's what they're telling you though.

Many restaurant salads have over 1,000 calories. It helps to get the dressing on the side or to look for ones that are labeled as being the "healthy" option, provided that the restaurant you go to does that.

And THIS is why I hate restaurants. I think they says its so high cause of all the salt they add. I got to a restaurant and get STEAMED broccoli and asparagus and it has a hand full of salt on it. I mean come on!!! They all turn something healthy into something horrible.
