C25K

Hi Guys,
I really would like to do this running programme but other than walking I've not done any real exercise in a few years and I have 154lbs to loose. Will I be ok to do this? Has anyone else done this as heavy as I am?
Thanks

I am currently on the program. I recommend just starting it. If it is too much, do all that you can and keep doing the first week over and over again until you feel confident to move to the next week. You don't have to follow it in weeks as the program suggests.

I'd generally suggest working up to comfortably walking for 30 minutes before you start it.

Some people absolutely rave about it, but I couldn't stand it the stopping an starting
What I found better was just starting jogging at a sloooooow pace for as long as I could. I'm still really slow, but now I can comfortably do 5 miles at a time.

I started at 307....Now, I couldn't jog when I first started because of the strain on my joints....but I got to where I could walk for a half hour, then walk faster for that half hour, then started with jogging. I like the C25K program because if I try to jog on my own I can never get the pace right. At least with intervals I'm learning how to pace myself better.

I did the program when I first started running. I was about 80lbs overweight. It took me 11 weeks to complete it and run my first 5k. Some of the later weeks took me longer to do but that's ok. My first 5k I ran in about 45 minutes. Now I'm running 5k in 24-25minutes and I'm about 15lbs from my ideal weight. Its a great place to start running.

I started off being about 140 pounds overweight. I started off just walking everyday until that just became boring and easy (even for 4-5 miles)... one day I just took off jogging. I found that I couldn't run for more than a minute and I felt like I was going to pass out.

I downloaded the app for my phone and tried the program. I couldn't even complete all the running circuits in Week 1, Day 1 but I didn't give up.

Each week as the "running" time got longer an longer I would think to myself "I can never do that", but I almost always did. Eventually when the time jumped up to 20/30 minutes and I had the thought, "I can't do that" I reminded myself that the week before I was wrong.

Getting up to week 8 or 9 and running for 20 to 30 minutes felt great.

I say give it a try. Go at your own pace. Know that you will have bad days because every runner does.

I finished Week 4, Day 1 last night, and this is how I'm starting to feel about it. When it cued me to start walking after the 6-minute run section, I kind of wanted to just keep running. But I dutifully followed the instructions... this time. It's the stopping and starting that gets to me more than anything. I'll probably give it another day or so, but I might just abandon it and do what you did and just start jogging slowly for a longer period of time without the intervals.
