Running (or riding) after dark

Here's a common sense article from Runners World, based on my personal observations lots of runners and even more cyclists could benefit from reading this.....

All good points... most of which apply to running/riding during daylight hours, too. You may have the right of way, but you're still WAAAY more vulnerable than any car/driver.

And this is why I'm glad I have a running/biking path to run on at night. No cars, though I still have to worry about the bicyclists.

BTW, folks, if you're bicycling on a narrow two lane path, don't do it side-by-side around a blind corner or over a hill. Please.

I had two oblivious idiots try to run me over 3 time last Sunday (they kept stopping to view the scenery and then would pass me again) . On their 3rd pass I took the entire lane, running almost right on the yellow line, and had some salty comments for them as they passed......

Great article and yes cyclists could benefit from this info as well with the caveat that they should not face traffic. They should ride with it and follow its rules.

Was going to work the other morning at about 7 a.m. (it's a highway drive) thought I saw a deer trotting towards me, it's glowing eyes a bouncing.......Nope it's a fellow runner with knuckle lights. No reflective gear and in the dark on a highway with a 2 foot shoulder. Also in the heaviest traffic of the day. I run all year round so yes some runs are in the dark but I definitely pick my spots and times, also wear reflective gear. Safe, not sorry.
