Vegas Vacation

I am going on vacation over Thanksgiving weekend to Las Vegas. Anyone who has been to Vegas before knows that place is a mecca for foodies!! We have a reservation at Joel Robuchon's restaurant (that wasn't easy to get!) one night. We are staying at Bellagio so we will be doing the Bellagio buffet for Thanksgiving dinner. The other days I don't know where we will be eating but I am getting anxious about this upcoming trip because I obviously want to have a great time and eat great food but I do not want to sabotage my progress. Can you all give me some advice for keeping myself (at least) at the same weight that week so I don't come home and get on the scale and see an increase? I won't be able to measure or weigh anything and that is what makes me nervous. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!! <3

i went to vegas for my honeymoon... only put a pound on... we walked and walked and walked up and down the strip and round the casinos... and it was really hot (we went in september) so we didnt eat much though the day... and that was with going to the Grand Buffet EVERY day for breakfast....!

even if you put on 10lb, who cares, enjoy your holiday, get back to a deficit when you get home!

I would recommend you pre-plan as much as possible. Decide on a goal for the week (i.e. not gain) and then plan for it. If you log while your there, you could up your calorie count to a maintenance number and hit that goal. If you have been eating at a deficit for a while now, you also won't be comfortable overeating. I'm often surprised now how quickly I get full compared to before I started.
I think pre-planning will take the stress out of it and let you enjoy yourself more.

You’ll be amazed how much walking you end up doing while you’re there. The casinos are huge, but there’s so much to look at, you barely notice the distance. Be sensible about portions and you should be fine. Buffets can be tricky since you feel compelled to get your money’s worth (although the buffet at the Wynn is, in my opinion, the only buffet worth the calories). Don’t stress about it too much. As long as you don’t over-indulge, you’ll be fine. On an unrelated note, look into Mystery Adventures while you’re out there. It’s one of the coolest activities on the strip (it’s an interactive murder adventure, but not like murder mystery dinner theater – you get to wander through different locations and hunt for clues). I go every time I’m in Vegas, and I’ve never been disappointed.

Awesome...thank you all!! I agree...I think portion control will be the more important thing. If I don't eat a huge volume of food I should be ok!! haha

I would enjoy the buffet and Joel's because as you said the reservations were hard to get. For the other meals I would try and research ahead of time if possible but I eat out quite often on and off the Strip and restaurants are very accommodating when I make modifications to an item. Also have you checked in the hotel gym or even just something like running the stairs in the hotel. Enjoy your vacation!

We will be doing tons of walking...that should help! My friend mentioned something about doing yoga with dolphins at the Mirage! That would be fun (and entertaining I'm sure!) I haven't stayed at Bellagio before but I am sure they have a gym...I should take advantage of the resort fee and actually use it this time...hehe

I don't have a rec for Indian food but I would check Yelp.com I rely on them and they rarely steer me wrong! Also Groupon, Living Social, Yipit, and restaurant.com. You might find some other deals for attractions like the High Roller, etc. I did a buffet a couple years ago for Thanksgiving! Trust me I did not hold back! Lol.

i go to las vegas at least 2 or 3 times a year - i LOVE it there! i do have some advice: there are several places you can eat that won't kill your diet. (i just went for a week and didn't gain anything.)
    - inside Caesar's Palace is Beijing Noodle #9. great food! you can have soup or they make homemade noodles with a great pork and mushroom sauce. drink water or they have excellent black tea.
    - there are several locations of LaSalsa (one inside the miracle mile mall @ planet hollywood) they offer great light selections.
    - buffets are the best because you can eat healthy. almost every buffet (including bellagio) has excellent healthy choices on their buffet.
    - i HIGHLY recommend going to the buffet inside Cosmo. it's called wicked spoon. eat there around mid-morning for brunch and you'll be full until dinner. this will keep your calories down for the day. they have delicious water (not all restaurants do) coffee, tea, etc. just stay away from the desserts - they are killer! LOL (but they are small, so you could have one...)
    - walk walk walk!!! do not take a cab. you can walk everywhere and november has the most awesome weather! most hotels have fantastic gyms as well for a small fee or free.

    have fun!!! i'm jealous!
